World famous percussionist and New- age percussion star, Bickram Ghosh is ranked amongst the great Tabla players of our country. Equally brilliant within traditional as well as experimental genres, Bickram has carved out a unique niche for himself in his diverse avataars as classical musician, new – age artiste and composer. Son of the great Tabla maestro-Pandit Shankar Ghosh, Bickram has also learnt the nuances of Carnatic percussion from Pandit S. Sekhar. He performed for over a decade with the legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar who honed his skills in the art of accompaniment.
He has over 50 recordings as Soloist, Composer and Collaborator. He has performed in almost every top venue in the world, among which are The Royal Albert Hall, London; The Kennedy Centre, Washington D.C; The Palais De Beaux Arts, Brussels; Carnegie Hall, New York and many others. His performances have met with accolades in international circuits and his many associations with top western musicians such as George Harrison ( Bickram performed on the title track of Harrison’s posthumously released album ‘Brainwashed’), Mstilav Rostropovich, Khaled Kouen, Yosi Levi and others has placed him in the top rung of Indian musicians in the International arena. He continues to contribute technique articles for drum magazines internationally, inc Modern Drummer and Rhythm magazines and his web site, petelockett.com has become increasingly popular for the hundreds of free video and audio percussion lessons. His book 'Indian rhythms for drumset' will be released early next year with American publisher, Hudson music.
Pete has a number of projects which are regularly touring; Network of Sparks and Taiko to Tabla. Petes first album, Network of Sparks featuring Bill Bruford was released on MELT2000 in October 1999 coinciding with a Contemporary Music Network tour of England that was supported by the Arts Council of England. The second album, featuring musicians from Pakistan, Ghana and Japan was released on ARC in 2003. The result of this Network of Sparks is an eclectic mix of percussion from all over the world. There are two Taiko to Tabla albums with Joji Hirota, Live at the Bruges Festival on Zoku-EMI label and a studio album also on ARC. Both projects have performed to packed houses all over the world including the Edinburgh Festival, Bruges Festival, Rhythm Sticks- London, Drumusique Festival, Kuala Lumpur, Glasgow One World Festival, Pontardawe Festival, Belfast Festival, Guildford Festival, Sufi-Soul Festival, Lahore Pakistan and the Newbury Festival. The Taiko to Tabla show was also broadcast live on the internet from the Edinburgh Festival in.
Petes new projects include Parallax Beat Brothers and Taalisman. PBB is with electronics wizard Scanner. They have released their first album in 2005 which featured trumpet genius Jon Hassell as special guest. They also toured extensively in fall 2005. Taalisman is a rich fusion of contemporary and traditional Eastern sounds, global percussive styles, Raga melodies, cutting edge harmonies and electronics and features one of South Asia's most outstanding and renowned musicians, Amit Chatterjee, guitarist with the legendary Joe Zawinul and also Trilok Gurtu.
