Requiem was created in 2003 through the collaborative efforts of a few seasoned djs, promoters and friends all looking to give something back to the local dark music community. In its early years Requiem was hosted at the opulent and appropriately named Kastle nightclub (formerly the Midtown Arts Center) and hosted many bands including Wolfsheim, Faith & The Muse, and others. Quickly noted as a prime gig spot on the tour map, the event grew in to a dedicated engine for underground artist promotion.
Although the days of booking bands at Requiem have mostly ceased due to venue and promotions changes, the event continues on with regular cd release parties and special events. Now hosted by the multi-roomed Complex nightclub, Requiem is still Saint Louis' prime gothic nightspot every first Monday of the month.
