Influences
My favorites and influences are many and varied. Across the pond they would be the Beatles and the Kinks. Of the American bands, two stand out. The A's and the Smithereens.
I'm fortunate to be friendly with members of both. Other favorites include Joni Mitchell, Michael Penn, Boz Scaggs, Todd Rundgren, Squeeze and many others. All of these artists have one thing in common. Their music is timeless.
Try as I might, it's difficult to find that in the newer music that I hear. The new artists seem to have one or two good songs on each album. I don't imagine anyone playing them 40 or 50 years from now.
Sounds Like
Take all of these influences, stir 'em up in a big pot.
Then add plenty of Frank's Hot Sauce and Old Bay!
Now you have the sound of THE RESISTORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE RESISTORS have recently reformed after a long hiatus that took the band members in various directions. Our sound is what we like to call Power Pop. That is, rock music with a pop edge. However, some of our songs are in the punk, reggae, and soul genres as well. Back in the 80s and 90s, we were together for 12 years, and played most of the top original music venues. These included the Empire, Dobbs, the Khyber, and Grendal's Lair on a regular basis.
We played shows with most of the popular groups of that era, and were a mainstay on the Philly scene. Check out the Relivethe80s.com website for a taste of that special time in Philly music history. THE RESISTORS placed 3rd in the MAPP magazine band competition out of over 70 acts.
As a result we had songs featured on three compilation CDs for both MAPP and MUSICIAN magazines. Now we are back at it! Check out our next show at Tin Angel on October 4th. www.tinangel.com
Sorry Sandy. I hear Al Green has a great new album out though, now that you mention him. Doubt that Muddy's put out anything new lately. "Oop scoobie doobie 'Lena WRONG! Next contestant please.
OK It has to be Muddy Waters or Al Green, and I have been THINKING a lot about this, so I am practicing "BBBBBop-a-lena" (bababa she's my gal)!!! I am serious!
Nice try Chal, but no seegar! Excuse the pun. Yes, Bruce did pay homage to Pete and has certainly been a fan but your answer is (drum roll please) Wrong!!! Thank you for playing Resistor's Trivia. Next contestant please.
Great answers Sandy! Two of them even!!! Unfortunately, both from the wrong continent. (hint) Drum roll please... Wrong!!! Still, we'd love to back you up sometime. After all, you ARE a member of one of the most noble professions, and a true R&R fan! Thank you for playing Resistor's Trivia! Next contestant please.
Bob Dylan or Lenny Kaye. I don't drink beer, so if I win, I wanna come on stage during your show at the TA and sing Ronnie Self's Bop-a-lena! Will you guys back me up????
John Hiatt? Good choice. Hmmmmm Didn't he start a famous hotel chain? Just kidding, another good songwriter he certainly is. And your answer is (drum roll please) Wrong!!!! Thank you for playing Resistor's Trivia! Next contestant please.
You got it Jan! Don't give up so easily though. If I don't have a correct answer by 12:52pm Friday, I'm going to extend the contest until Monday since I don't have PC access at the Shore. Also, raising the stakes to a beer AND a shot! (Almost like being on Deal Or No Deal without the obnoxious bald guy. )
Dan the Man with a very timely answer, considering Bo's recent passing. Very true that Bruce has great respect for the elder statesmen of Rock. And yes, he did his share of ripping off the classic Bo rhythm, although not as blatantly as the Stones ( Not Fade Away). But still your answer is WRONG!!! Thank you for playing Resistor's Trivia! Next contestant please.
And the lovely Jan weighs in with an interesting choice! It is true that "The Boss" is a self professed fan of the Fab Four, but he leans more toward the John Lennon camp. That makes your answer, Jan (drum roll please) Wrong!!!! Thank you for playing Resistor's Trivia. Next contestant please.
Excellent guess, Roy, and very true that "The Boss" was a huge fan of your namesake Roy Orbison. Classic video of them playing together as well! However, you are (drumroll please) Wrong!!! Thank you for playing Resistor's trivia my friend. Next contestant please!!
