The Respect Me Coalition's Interests
|
| General | | | Music | | | Movies | "The images we see of Black people are more often than not dehumanizing and degrading. Without an organized movement to challenge media distortions, they rule the day. No one acts as though the black actors who eagerly take roles that depict black people as being irrational, immoral, and lacking in basic intelligence, are perpetuating white supremist ideology."---Bell Hooks pg.65 "Salvation: Black People and Love" | | Television | | | Books | | | Heroes | All women who (through their actions)command and demand nothing less than total RESPECT. |

The Respect Me Coalition's Blurbs |
About me:
The Respect Me Coalition is a collaborative movement aiming to represent the interests of Black women. Partnered and backed by The Mothers In Action Coaltion,The Los Angeles Sentinel, The New Frontier Democratic Club, The Los Angeles African-American Women's Public Policy
Institute, AME Church,The National Democratic Party, The Rainbow Push Coalition, 102.3 KJLH FM, V1003 FM, and 93.5KDAY FM among others, our mission is to reaffirm our commitment to women by influencing the decisons of media executives that dictate what we see and hear in the public airwaves. We wish to influence the decisions of all consumers of products that perpetuate and reek with the degradation and disrespect of not only Black women, but ALL women. We also work to educate our community of women and girls who condone and accept the disrespect and further address our community about the need for respect. Enough is enough! Join the Coalition today!

In regard to music,we advise that black women support thought provoking artists like Meshell N'DegeOcello,Jill Scott,Little Brother,Dead Prez, Taalam Acey, Erykah Badu,Seti Amun Ra Jakada, One Be Lo, Binary Star,Bridget Gray,India Arie, Immortal Technique,De La Soul, and Common, among many others that show a diverse, multidimensional portrayal of the Black experience.
If you or any person, organization, and or collective that you know or are affiliated with has similar aims, please contact us at: miarespectme@lasentinel.net
