The Retro Ronnys invented themselves at the end of the year 2006.
Started out as a threesome, Joris (guitar), Wim (vocals) and Bram (drums), soon felt that they needed some fresh blood to make their quest complete. Tom (saxophone) and Benji (bass) joined the band and the gang of five was complete.
The first few rehearsals were held at Trix in Antwerp. Later on they moved to the smaller but equally great Vizit in Wilrijk to play their favourite covers, ranging from Therapy, to Sophia and Bush.
After a while they wanted a place for themselves, a place to call home, and most important a place where they could leave all their instruments and stuff behind.
When a friend suggested making their own rehearsal room at the back of the storage place of his company, they kissed his hands, praised the lord and went to work.
What they discovered was a small room, packed with rubbish and dust.
After a good day of hard work, the job was done. Still as small as before, but cleaned up and soundproof, their rehearsal room was finished.
They dragged in their instruments, filled the little space that was left with themselves and stared playing their favourite tunes.
After a few local live shows in the area, they felt they wanted more than just playing covers.
So at the start of 2008 they began writing their own songs, inspired by their everyday adventures and the nude calendars they stumbled onto at the storage place.
The outcome of their wide-ranging influences is something that can be situated somewhere in the landscape of bubblegum-pop and retro-rock.
In march 2009 they locked themselves up in the local “chiro-residence” to record a few of their (soon to be) hitsingles. According to insiders it’s already a classic rock-masterpiece.
Now they are ready to take your world by storm.
If you want these partyboys to play for you, let them know. Cause they are always looking for a place to play.
