¡Retumba!, a New York City based cultural organization that resides in the Bronx. Founded in March of 1981, in celebration of Women's History month with the goal of bringing the joy of life experienced through the presentation and performance of folkloric music and dance to audiences throughout world communities. ¡Retumba! emphasizes the particular strengths and sensitivities of women performing together in celebration. The members of the company are from diverse ethnic, cultural and artistic backgrounds whom share a love, respect, and appreciation for the folkloric musical, dance, and cultural expressions of the Caribbean and Latin America. ¡Retumba! offers an array of programs that range from concert performances, theatrical presentations, educational presentations, workshops and lecture-demonstrations for all ages.
¡Retumba! has performed at Lincoln Center’s Out-of-Door festival, Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Carnegie Hall with Pete Seeger, Clearwater Music Revival, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, South Jersey Performing Arts Center, State Theatre New Brunswick, Hostos Performing Arts Center, Lehman Center for the Arts, Paramount Theatre, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, McHaffey Theater in St. Petersberg, Walt Disney Concert Hall in LA, SummerStage, Pathmark's Multicultural Arts Festival as well as colleges and universities in the United States.
