At the age of 12, my brother Gabe showed me how to play the guitar so that he would have someone to play with. I picked it up pretty quick and then he handed me a bass. I played bass for several years and we had many bands throughout those years.
It wasn't until I got to be 15 that I really started writing music and coming up with lyrics. This is when I knew that I had to break away from playing the bass and start focusing on playing rhythm guitar to express myself. When I did this Gabe started focusing on lead guitar.
A severe heartbreak I encountered at the age of 17. As it turned out, the girl I had been so in love with, also loved several other people. Go figure. Anyway, I thank her for it because it encouraged me to write several songs and really search for the meaning of happiness. Thanks for the life lesson...
I tell you all of this because, in the beginning, betrayal was the main driving force behind most of my music from the early days. It is what created who I am today. While I wish I could forget all of it, I would not trade the experience for the world. By being in the depths of depression that I was so many years ago, I was able to find myself. I found out who I was and who I wanted to be. It helped me become the person I am today. It led me on to writing songs of hope and understanding... just not for me.
You see, when you have a low there has to be a high that follows... right? My high came when I started understanding that our songs were helping others to cope with their own pain and troubles. The songs were helping them understand that they were not alone in this world and that other people experienced the same discomforts that they felt. Albeit a hard lesson for us to learn, we finally understood that by reliving our stories on stage we were helping others cope with the same fears and desperation I once felt so overwhelmingly in my soul. It was a gift from God. From that moment on, all of our songs have been and are being written with that overall goal in mind... the needs of the masses souls to be reveled. Thus our name.
There were a lot of people that helped us along the way and I will always remember them. I love all of you with my whole heart. Several different band members, women, and even children have helped inspire our music for so many years. I am eternally grateful.
The band Revel the Masses was founded by my brother Gabriel and myself. We have been through a lot together and he will always be a major influence in my life. He is my best friend, confidant, and mentor. I love him more than words can express. A compilation of memories is what we are. We see something and we write about it. We are not always sad and depressed, but we are not afraid to tell it like it is when we are. We are not afraid to cry when we are hurt. We are not afraid of being human.
So many different people played with us through the years. As any band member knows, there are a lot of fake people out there. We have had more than our fair share of these. Just about all of the band members that we've had over the years have ended up being people who could care less about being supportive of the band as a unit, the music we create, or the dream we envision. They were in it for selfish reasons. They just wanted to get a free ride. They were ignoramus.
I am real. I answer people truthfully. I tell people what I honestly think. I am trusting. I answer my messages. I tell people thank you. I have manners. I have respect. I love people unconditionally. I love music. I am appreciative of what I have. I am a hard worker. I am a Christian. I am a means to an end. I am emotional. I am a good person. I am all for freedom of expression. I am on a quest to tell as many people in the world that I can that there is someone out there that feels like they do. I am not afraid to be myself. I am Revel The Masses...
