Here's a warning right now: I've seen reviews that have ranged from rating this as unstructured crap without any variation whatsoever (they're deaf morons, I'd say one of the guys who reviewed this didn't like Bathory because of their "musical incompetence"...how the fuck this tard ever got his greasy hands on this cult release is beyond me) to full praise of its insanity and relentless attack. Whether or not you'll like this depends on if you can handle the chaotic, extreme, but well-structured mess that Revenge bleeds through their instruments. In other words, if you need conventional structures and a Marduk production to get your kicks, stay away from this release. If Conqueror and Beherit get your adrenaline running, then by all means hunt this disc down, as it is more than worth whatever you'll end up paying...

The first thing I noticed was how much more VIOLENT, lethal, and messy things got since the War Cult Supremacy album (if you found that too extreme, dont even bother with this), which was already a chaotic WAR Metal masterpiece in itself. I suppose this must be the sort of stuff Förster was hinting at when he said the newer Conqueror material was going to be 10 times the ferocity of their debut. If you know anything of James Read's projects, you should know what to expect in the drum department. Only thing is, this is FAR more varied (!) than anything he's done in Conqueror or Axis Of Advance, not to mention about ten light years faster (!!!). The drum beats range from your average, tried-and-true bass-snare-hihat hyperblasts (no triggers here motherfuckers) to some immensely interesting 16th note militaristic patterns which are extremely catchy and emphasize the war atmosphere PERFECTLY, to say the least. If you're not banging your fist violently on the nearest object when listening to these songs, something is amiss. Oh, and to say that the drumming is all out blasting without variation is absolutely retarded. There are plenty of rhythmic variations and tempo changes. Fuck these deaf cretins; go listen to some Dork Funeral if this is too much for you to handle.

The guitars are razor sharp and completely feral (remember those whacked-out pick scrapes that were all over songs like Infinite Majesty? therere even more of those on here) though they are often hid underneath the drum and vocal attacks (and consequently sound like a low buzz of a nuclear reactor about 90% of the time) except for the shrill and furious and seemingly random solos, which I think completely destroy Slayer's in precision, speed, and in their frenetic nature. Truly cult stuff indeed. The ballsy distorted bass is also quite easily heard and lends a rather muddy sound sometimes, especially at the beginning of Vengeance Absolute. Fuck! I love that intro!!!

The vocals *will* take some getting used to, even if you have a violently sick mind like I do. Again, if you've heard Conqueror, you can expect more of Read's trademark ANGRY muffled rasps; however, this time around he utilizes vocal effects to a much greater extent. Sometimes it'll range from a muddy, low, sick growl (no, not at all like the laughable burping in Grindcore - this actually sounds EVIL) that sometimes reminds me of Nuclear Holocausto to a shrill robotic tone that sounds utterly creepy. All in all these are the most original vocals I've heard EVER, not to mention the SICKEST that have ever been laid onto disc. True aural decimation indeed (sorry, I had to use that).

Oh, if you thought Bathory's original "War" kicked ass, just *wait* till you hear THIS version. Total destruction and chaos is all I have to say! Words cannot really describe just how fucking killer this CD is. It's quite short (only 16:34) but it's more than extreme and diverse enough to have found a permanent spot in my playlist. Worship this attack on the human race or go away.
