Influences
Where to start? Here's a few of our favourites which is the best place to start:
Charles Mingus, Bob Dylan, Pharoah Sanders, Alice and John Coltrane, Nick Drake, Beck, Sigur Ros, The Verve...
Reverie exploded onto the West Midlands Music scene in 2005 with their unusual blend of complex , beautiful and dynamic songs, classical instruments, exquisite orchestration lead by powerful frontman and songsmith Ian Darby. Notable fans of the band include ex-Wonderstuff front-man Miles Hunt (who personally requested Reverie support him on key dates of his recent UK tour) and Tim Lee of Tummy Touch Records (Groove Armada & Tom Vek).
Reverie are unusual yet familiar, enigmatic yet fun and approachable but they are above all gratifying and leave you wanting more.
Stylistically, Reverie’s music spans many genres, the rich, colourful, cavernous voice of Ian Darby draws instant parallels with John Martyn, Nick Drake, Ray LaMontagne and Ben Ottewell from Gomez.Songs explore a breadth of subjects, from love to murder, the state of society to fairies. This diversity spans everything that Reverie do and are about and is reflected directly in the music they play. Ian Darby is augmented by an integral string trio which flavours and deepens the sound to beautiful and sometimes heart-wrenching proportions. Helen Beecroft (viola), Hannah Pritchard (violin) and Julia Munn (cello) are supported by recent addition Greg Ellis on fretless, acoustic bass which has ‘beefed up’ the live sound further. Other musicians are occasionally added to support the Reverie family further in the form of percussion, drums and brass.
The music spans the gamut of emotion and styles. It has acoustic/ sometimes folky roots but draws upon classical arrangements, gypsy styles, world music and a jazz sensibility equally as it does on more contemporary styles, creating a sound which is as much Beethoven as Beck, as much Devendra Banhart as Debussy and as much Sigur Ros as Stravinsky! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "......they are, in my humble opinion, one of the strongest Midlands bands around at the moment... Music to live, love and die by......." The hearingaid, October 2007
