   REVOLTING QUEERS's Blurbs
About me:
WHO ARE WE? AND WHY ARE WE SO ANGRY?
We are the REVOLTING QUEERS! We are a collective bent on changing the current political social landscape of the Twin Cities, through imaginative protest and street theater, as well as creating a space for like minded individuals to meet and cultivate our community. We are interested in developing a new queer movement reclaiming the assimilationist GLBT movement.

THE HIRSTORY/HERSTORY/HISTORY:
A group of queer people got together because they were frustrated with the apolitical, homonormative, corporate-owned, gay marriage obsessed Pride festival in the Twin Cities and started the Revolting Queers in early 2007.
In the last weekend of June, 2007, we staged a funeral procession through the Pride parade entitled "In Loving Memory Of...", in which we carried coffins for various issues which have died due to the obsession with gay marriage.

We are always looking to meet new people, and would love to have you join us!

EVENTS:
I Smell A Statement!/B>
join the RQs in the Pride ParadeSunday June 29th at 10:30 Am
The meet up site is near 3rd and Hennepin (look for the Revolting Queers banner).
For this year's Pride parade, our theme will be "Airing out the dirty laundry", in which we'll expose the hypocrisies of so-called "gay friendly" politicians, organizations, and sell-outs like the HRC. Were you favorite undies, or whatever you are comfortable in.

FUTURE EVENTS:

- THE RED GARDEN, in which we will explore Marxist readings and a skillshare of urban gardening/food production.
- Movie night, a monthly rotating queer film night.
Who I'd like to meet:
We want to meet YOU!
We need lots of help as we continue our work after Pride 2007.
We will also have lots of other volunteer opportunities if you can't make the meetings. Do you like to paint? Stencil? Build things? Act? Cheer? Shout? Sing? Dress up? Great! Then join us!

About Povera:
Povera (Jaime Carrera's third evening-length work) focuses on the struggles of existence as a working artist with virtually zero financial resources.

Creating with what's at hand whilst weathering the constant burden of food and shelter, as well as, how one is perceived by the nine-to-five segment of the population.

About Artery 24:
Artery 24 showcases Twin Cities and International artists approaching performance from a myriad of backgrounds in synthesis with screenings of new media work. For each hour of the twenty-four hour period a different artist/dancer/musician/puppeteer/actor or collaboration of the aforementioned will be featured. Artery 24 is a non-stop engagement and an act of endurance, daring the will of the spectator to attend for as long as possible, but also to come and go as they please upon the hour.

About GODLESS:

A show about atheism from the point of view of someone raised in a strict conservative catholic environment who, at age 13, began to reject his own family's faith, organised religion in general, and eventually, the notion of god.
Rarely discussing his atheism in youth for fear of the typical annoying attempts to "save" his soul, and gradually finding like-minded individuals and information, but finding most material on the subject too academic and a bit dull.
In his second full stage show, Jaime Carrera addresses several hypocrisies of the church, from the convenience of god's forgiveness in confession, to love thy neighbor though god hates fags, equating atheists with satanists (who worship another imaginary entity), and the ever-popular "fear of god".
Mixing humour and performance to create a pop art version of blasphemous fun!

Thanks for adding me. ¶ Our problems are diverse, but to address any of them we must also face their common root: Bullies, liars, thieves, murderers (including those in politics) all believe people are motivated only by greed & fear. They'd like us to share that belief, because they use it to justify themselves & to manipulate us. But we've found LOVE inside ourselves & our friends; it's in EVERYONE if we can just wake them. Spread the word. ¶ The war against Iraq began 5 years ago. Like most wars, it's based on lies. The occupation makes new enemies faster than it can kill them; that's helpful only to arms dealers. Let's end the military-industrial complex. ¶ Don't scapegoat the immigrants — they're flooding into our economy only because we wrecked theirs. So-called "free trade" is a lie, giving investors but not workers freedom to seek a better deal. The market's "efficiency" is a lie, externalizing costs, perpetuating inefficiencies of war, poverty, disease. The rich get richer and fewer; everyone else gets screwed. The corporatocracy is cruel & stupid. Let's end it before it kills the ecosystem. ¶ We need government control over business, not the other way around; government should be by & for the PEOPLE. Transparency in government, public financing of election campaigns, trustbusting the media, ending corporate personhood would be a good start. Politicians should fear for their jobs; citizens shouldn't fear their government. Most of all, more people must get involved. ¶ Question authority. Carry on the struggle. Hold onto hope. Keep singing. — Eric
