Having Milan Melvin produce first recording was a major influence for Rex. But, before that Curt Boettcher showed Rex the dream world of Los Angeles studio recording in 1967 after Rex fled Texas during the Federal sweep on Psychedelic Family Bands. Rex’s band was none other than the infamous Rachel’s Children, which rocked Texas in 1966-1967.
Contemporaries include Rick Beresford, Peter Rowan, the late Townes Van Zant, Willis Allen Ramsey, Tom Kimmel, Kevin Welch, Dana Cooper, and Mary Gauthier
Life Influences: Albert Einstein, Carl Jung, Mahatma Gandhi, Paramahansa Yogananda, Bill Wilson, and Dr. Bob Smith
風格近似
A cross between James Taylor and Jerry Jeff Walker. To others, Rex is the sound of Texas, enlightened by the years and well traveled around the world.
To begin the Rex Foster story, let’s begin with the story of Bob Dylan stopping in San Antonio, finding a mom and pop record store, pulling over the tour bus, going into the store on a Sunday morning with his road manager and asking if he could get a copy of Rex Foster's CD, Artist because of a song he'd heard called "Thinkin' 'Bout Bob Dylan". He had the manager of the store not only sell him a copy, but also record that song and the last song, "Freedom" on a cassette because Neil Young's bus that Dylan was using didn't have a CD player. Then off he went down the Texas highway into the universe of Bob.
September 15th will see the release of the latest Album by Rex Foster. The Peter Rowan Produced "That Extra Mile" is already available at itunes.

Flyin’ “under the radar “can provide an artistic muse in many ways. The freedom gained by not having to meet expectations that are placed upon our collective cultural right-brain operatives when they become perceived as the product and not the producer may be the main benefit. The rub comes when the Artist (begrudgingly) acknowledges that he would be pleased if his art gained a bit more exposure to the world than the shadows of being admired by other Artists allow.
Billy Joe Shaver has been quoted as saying “”Exposure? You can die from that…..right?” Shaver is just one on a long list that believe Rex Foster deserves more exposure and less night flying.
Texas born singer-songwriter Rex Foster is a musicians’ musician, existing on the edges of the limelight but highly regarded by some of music’s best and brightest stars. Foster has been a songwriter since 1965 and a performer since 1963, having toured across the nation as part of the Medicine Ball Caravan along with Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, B.B. King, the Faces and countless others. After taking a hiatus in the 80s to focus on raising his family, Foster returned to the road and to the studio, releasing several records; his latest offering is “That Extra Mile” produced by longtime friend and collaborator Peter Rowan. The new CD is scheduled for release September 18, 2009 on Foster’s own Agarita Records. A short list of CD Release performances are being set up in the US for mid to late September, followed by a European Tour that will take Foster to France, Ireland, England and other Old World stops still being set up. You see, like many of Rex Foster’s peers in the realm of “real” American Music, Europe has shared the “inside view” enjoyed by the greatest singer songwriters of the 20th & 21st centuries, "Rex Foster is one of my heroes." - Steve Earle;
"Rex's songs are really refreshing; I feel like he and I are kindred spirits." -Townes Van Zandt;
"Where can I get Rex's CD?" - Bob Dylan
“That Extra Mile” will be distributed digitally (a first for Foster) through A-Train Entertainment to iTunes, Amazon.com and many other digital retailers. Physical copies of the CD will be available at RexFoster.com; Lonestarmusic.com; Waterloo Records in Austin and at all Rex Foster Art Shows and live performances.

thanks for responding Rex! In summer I am going to change to Köln in Germany, let me know if you are going to come there. Great Songs, I prefer I saw an Angel. Cheers to Texas ( lived there some years ago). Julian
Thanks for adding Wall & Sand. It's a little rockband I've been playing with for some time now, but only recently got on MySpace. Beware that I'm not the one usually responsible for the profile, so personal messages are better off directed at this one. Too bad that we're not getting to see you overhere this time, but I wish you best of luck with your record, and look forward to hear it :-)
I do believe your legend status will be surpassed and venturing toward that of an icon with the new CD! "Kick Back" is sure to become a Texas anthem, and hopefully a world one as well!! (And, I still have the T-shirt for that song from years back :-)
