Spending time with my girls. Emmi's 12 and Kaia's 5 going on 12. Other than that it's all about the music (listening to it, spinning it, making it) and visual arts (whether that's a naked girl on TV or a naked girl on my lap).
In my spare time I go whale-gutting in the Arctic.
Did I mention Polish and Norwegian girls? They rule.
What I Spin: EBM, electro, industrial, dark trance, rhythmic noise, hard house...
What I Watch: I like to watch...is that ever true. But I don't think I should really get into that in this forum.
Besides that, disaster films. Irwin Allen was the master of disaster films, Poseidon Adventure, Earthquake, The Swarm (killer bees!!!).... But the mother of all disaster films is definitely The Towering Inferno. Do you remember the part when the fire was raging down below the ballroom and they started evacuating ppl and the Fire Chief (Steve McQueen, how rugged!!!) told everyone to avoid the main elevators but then the doors opened and ppl of course didn't listen and so they all rushed into the elevator and it started to descend and then just like Steve McQueen said the fire on one of the floors below triggered the elevator to stop on that floor and the doors opened and a huge ball of fire exploded into the elevator and then the elevator somehow returned to the top floor where the ballroom was and you hear this little ding and the doors opened and the elevator was full of charred bodies and then this one guy, still burning, stumbled out of the elevator and then just kind of moaned and collapsed, dead and burnt to a crisp? That was cool.
What I Watch on TV: I'm a sucker for legal dramas, so Law & Order, including SVU. I'm not as big of a fan of Criminal Intent, where D'Onofrio chews up everything around him including the scenery and his co-stars. Aga thinks he's great, I think he's going to gesticulate himself into a spastic fit one of these days and keel over.
True crime stories: FBI Files, American Justice, Cold Case Files, etc. CSI, too, which has somehow managed to transform a bunch of misfits and has-beens into a pretty decent ensemble cast. How annoying is David Caruso, though? Anyone remember him from Thief of Hearts (1984, with Steven Bauer and Barbara Williams)? He's still just as slimy. And like it's not totally transparant how his whole persona betrays the fact that this is the same moron who thought so highly of himself he left a gig which he had miraculously rode to a position of popularity he was way underqualified for (NYPD Blue) only to crash and burn as the "lead" actor he thought he was. (Can anyone say "Jade").
Are you still following me or have I completely lost everyone?
What I Read: Really stupid medical and sci-fi thrillers that are completely implausible and make me feel used upon finishing them. John Saul and Robin Cook are two of the more guilty offenders. And I'm definitely more New York Post than Wall Street Journal, even though I work on Wall Street. I just have a short attention span, I guess.
What I Smoke: Marlboro 100s, hard pack.....for starters.
What I Drink: I don't drink all that often anymore, in my old age. I prefer alternative vehicles of sensory manipulation. But when I do, it's either Jack or Zywiec, a nice and strong Polish lager.
What I Want to Be When I Grow Up: Pope John Paul II, may he rest in peace. But since there will never be another like him: a soldier. There are few bigger heroes today, despite what the media and Democrats would like you to believe, than the members of the United States armed forces fighting (and dying) in the Middle East. Huge love and admiration for former Arizona Cardinal DB Pat Tillman, who gave his life for an ideal; who believed in something so strongly he was willing to die for it. There'd be a hell of a lot less DJs in the scene if music required that kind of commitment.
Hot Nordic and/or Eastern European women, 16-24. What's the age of consent in Scandinavia, anyway?
God, I love women.
What I Believe: I believe in the power of the written word. Probably explains why I've relied so heavily on language (metaphorically and cathartically) throughout my life. Words are my shelter, my salvation.
Good lyrics are essential to a good song, in my view. Sure, I spin lots of songs without lyrics, or with lyrics of a questionable quality. But for a song to affect me, deeply and eternally, it's got to convey its message by using great words. Sometimes it's just a phrase, sometimes a refrain. Once it sticks, it never goes away.
Here are some words I wish were mine.
