   About reynaldo young
(under construction)

capricho 21
capricho [ka'priSo] nm whim, caprice;~so, a a capricious (collins spanish dictionary)

(...) every few seconds a ravenous beast would
rip off a decaying arm and make off with it over
the desert in front of us, dead fingers trailing
through the sand, the remains of the burned
military sleeve flapping in the wind.
"just for the record,'' the cameraman said to me.
(...) to die benignly and without obvious wounds,
without any kind of squalor, without a trace of shit
or mucus or congealed blood, if they wanted to make it
on to the morning news programmes.
(...) a piece of steel in his forehead, howling
like an animal which is, of course, what we all are,
before he died.

it's about surgical strikes, collateral damage (...)

(robert fisk)

(...) it is from rage that thought is born, not from the pose of reason.

(john holloway)

ay'tik (we)

strategies, tactics and an arbitrary metaphor for active screaming
ay'tik programme note (...) the two-dimensionality of the "no"; my previous piece (7 caprichos, for electric guitar alone) is already a long, loud scream written while the american b-52s pulverised what was left of one of the poorest nations on the planet. that piece is a scream, but a scream articulated like that of a suicide bomber: the discourse is clearly stated, but everything disappears during the articulation of that scream, performer and composer included (...) when I got the commission from COMA I felt I needed, without losing that negativity, to take further steps open the scream to the future, make it active, start from that same anger, but pointing towards hope (...) how much can I compose the scream; how much can I manhandle it for it to become music whilst still being a scream? the scream is un-scientific; the scream is un-musical. but if we compose it, we negate it and lose its subjectivity: it's no longer scream, its composition, score (...) the scream negates, the word doesn't; and the song, if we are not careful, doesn't negate either (...) the force of the scream, its necessity, comes from my own existential loathing. the theoretical mechanisms to make it active are offered to us in your work; a hope, a real way of doing still shines in the indigenous struggles of the mexican southeast (...) I still believe that in a world governed by stupidity, beauty is a way of fighting back (...) reynaldo young (from an e-mail to john holloway, 17/5/2002)

Dear friends, I am playing a free gig at the beauteous Union Chapel, Islington this Saturday. The sunlight will be streaming through its vaulted windows as Blank Canvas and Arctic Circle present this gig during the blessed daylight hours of 12-2. And yea shall it's hallowed interior be filled with all manner of scraping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. Let us pray. And then let us go to the pub.

Hey there,

Here's one from left field...

Ever wondered what to do in the event of a nuclear threat?

A while ago I found stuff that inspired me to make this film:

Living Under the Shadow of the Nuclear Umbrella

Both artistic (ensure you get the background music!) and educational, it primarily comprises official British government civil defence advice.

Though source materials are quite aged, much remains relevant today.

I encourage all to visit the YouTube page to learn more (Show support! Rate! Comment!) and responsibly circulate as widely as possible, here:

Help to raise awareness.

Say have you checked out my web site recently?

Take care and keep in touch.

Best,
Faber.
