2. King Crimson - In the Wake of Poseidon
3. Beach Boys - Surf's Up
4. Rick Wakeman - The Six Wives of Henry VIII

7. The Left Banke - Walk Away Renee
8. Lalo Schifrin - Once A Thief
9. Barney Kessel & Stephane Grappelli - Limehouse Blues
10. Joe Pass - The Stones Jazz

The first records I remember listening to were "My Bucket's Got a Hole in It" by Hank Jr. and "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa" by Napoleon XIV. The first record I ever bought was "Theme from S.W.A.T." by Rhythm Heritage. The first concert I remember going to see was the Volunteer Jam in the 70's. The first band I ever made a point to see was Chic at the Gaslight Theater at Opryland in 1979. My first band obsessions were The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, and The Clash. The first band I ever hated was KISS, but more because I hated the people who liked them than for the music (although I was more interested in listening to Brides of Funkenstein that day).

Other favorites include The Kinks, The Hives, Johnny Cash, Electric Light Orchestra, Band of Bees, King Crimson, The Cramps, The Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground, My Bloody Valentine, The Decemberists, The Meat Puppets, Minutemen, Firehose, X, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Raymond Scott, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian, Al Caiola, The Three Suns, Esquivel, Martin Denny, The Lonesome Family, Versus, Galaxie 500, Pete Townsend/The Who, James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Otis Redding, Booker T and the MGs, Rufus Thomas, B. B. King, Issac Hayes, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Radiohead, Coheed and Cambria, L'arc en Ciel, Yoko Kanno, Commander Cody, The White Stripes, Frank Zappa, R.E.M., U2, Link Wray, Little Jimmy Dickens, Joe Maphis, Spade Cooley, Mudhoney, Guided by Voices, Doc Watson, Wilco, The Replacements, Clockhammer, The Ramones, Los Lobos, Joe Jackson, The Smiths, The Shop Assistants, Robyn Hitchcock, Talking Heads, Man or Astroman?, Los Straitjackets, Bruce Springsteen, Sly and the Family Stone, The Animals, The Yardbirds, The Jam, The Style Council, The dB's, Gorillaz, Tigerlillies, Tom Waits, John Renbourn, Richard Thompson, Paul Williams, Neil Young, Kate Bush, Iggy Pop, Big Star, DJ Shadow, The Church, Joy Division, DK's, Flat Duo Jets, Screaming Trees, Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, B.A.D., Public Enemy, The Beastie Boys, The Beach Boys, Joe Maize and his Cordsmen, The Monkees, Medeski Martin and Wood, Matthew Sweet, Sonny Rollins, New Order, Black Flag, Laika & The Cosmonauts, The Pogues, Dead Can Dance, Julian Cope, Houndog, Jason and the Scorchers, Webb Wilder, Royal Court of China, The Shakers, The Lost Octobers, The Exotic Ones, The Way Outs, Fun Girls From Mt. Pilot, Secret Commonwealth, Raging Fire, Madness, Toots and the Maytals, Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Professor Longhair, T. Rex, B-52's, Stray Cats, 13th Floor Elevators, The Pixies, Cocteau Twins, Squeeze, XTC and many, many more!..
Movies..I am a firm believer in the auteurist theory. While a film takes a group of dedicated professionals, it is ultimately the director, producer, and even the writer who impress their vision on a film. Favorites include: Alfred Hitchcock, George A. Romero, Fritz Lang, David Cronenberg, George Lucas, John Ford, George Pal, John Carpenter, Ray Harryhausen, Peter Jackson, Howard Hawks, 'Beat' Takeshi Kitano, Chan-Wook Park, Takashi Miike, Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman, Quentin Tarantino, Dario Argento, Ridley Scott, Terry Gilliam, Fracois Truffaut, Martin Scorsese...

Dueling with my love of the auteur is my love of genre. I love trashy Z-grade films with no budget, film noir, horror, science fiction, fantasy, musicals, westerns, boxing movies, documentaries, retro-erotica, gangsters, screwball comedy, short films, cartoons of all sorts, the occasional weepy drama, avante garde, foreign, Kaiju, Samurai, J-Horror, obtuse French films, and many, many more.
..
Television..The Avengers, Hammer House of Horror, Pee Wee's Playhouse, Boston Legal, Veronica Mars, Heroes, Jericho, John From Cincinnati, Battlestar Galactica (the new series, natch), The Prisoner, Twin Peaks, Blake's 7, Star Trek: TOS, Dragnet, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dave Allen at Large, Tales from the Crypt, The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits (Classic), The Tomorrow Show, Space: 1999, Chiller Cinema, any cool musical variety shows, Storyteller, X-Files, Millennium, Batman Animated Series, Justice League, Venture Brothers, Cowboy Bebop, Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Samurai Champloo, Spaced, Dr. Who (Classic and Modern), 24, Deadwood, Sopranos, Masters of Horror, The Mighty Boosh, Peep Show, Smoking Room, The Office, Brisco County, Lost, more to come!..
BooksComic Books:
Walking Dead, All-Star Batman & Robin, All-Star Superman, House of Mystery, The War That Time Forgot (These are the ones I am currently buying on a continous basis)
I led a dual life as a young comic reader by enjoying both Batman and Spiderman equally. I once gave myself a headache by reading teeny tine reprints of Fantastic Four. There was also a classic history of superheroes by Ron Goulart which was very influential. My main comic supplier in the early days was a little used book store next to the Sutler which was run by this guy in a wheelchair and whose name I can't remember. Oh yeah, Walt's Bookstore. Got the whole run of Captain Savage and his Leatherneck Raiders from him. During the mid-eighties I had my comic fix fed by David Dark, who collected many great titles like Swamp Thing, Mighty Thor, Watchmen, Dark Night Returns & American Flagg. I then wandered off into the underground and collected a bunch of Zap! comix & Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers & Weirdo & other stuff by Crumb, Robt. Williams, and others. I once stole a cool Flaming Carrot tshirt from an ex-girlfriend but she stole it back. Oh, and let's not forget those Gladstone reprints of EC comics from the early 90's. Those rocked!! Now I pretty much love anything by Alan Moore, Mike Mignola, Neil Gaiman and, well, you get the picture.

   rhatfink's Blurbs
About me:
.. I was raised just south of Music City in a rapidly expanding sleeper cell of middle class suburbia. My father was a television reporter/movie reviewer for WSM-TV back in the 1970's and 80's. Being the product of a fashionably broken home, I often accompanied him to work as part of the prisoner release program known as weekend visits. While my father toiled at his job, I would scrounge 16mm film from trash cans and edit togther my own nonsense montages. Later, as U-matic 3/4" video erased the smell of film developing and fixing fluids from my nose, I would edit on the station's very expensive equipment to my endless delight. Oh, where will our story end?..
Who I'd like to meet:
