Rhea Silvia is a dynamic and powerful, yet melodic rock project that formed in July of 2007. The Pennsylvania trio is made up of Jason Barshinger on Vocals and Bass, Michael Adams on Guitar and Cory McClain on Drums. The band uses a rich blend of soulful vocals and unique bass lines supplied by Barshinger, while McClain adds driving percussion to fuel the undertow of the songs. Mix in the intricate and complex guitar work of Adams and you have a musical experience that brings to life a classic rock feel with a modern rock effect!
The band has performed throughout Central PA, Philadephia, Baltimore and New Jersey. With a constantly growing fan base, Rhea Silvia continues to prove themselves as one of the best new rock acts out of the Tri-State area.
The release of a 2-song demo provided added success to the band, as "RISE" was featured on 105.7 WQXA-FM (Central PA) numberous times. Rhea Silvia looks to continue their accomplishments with the recording of their highly anticipated debut album, "When The Spotlight Shines Upon You." The album (recorded at Seventh Wave Studio in Harrisburg, PA) was released at the 2009 Seven One Seven Music Awards on June 6th, 2009.
Awards won at The Seven One Seven Music Awards:
Best New Artist (2008)
Single of the Year - "Rise" (2009)
Best Rock Act (2009)
Artist of the Year (2009)
"But anyway, for these guys, looking backwards is hardly the priority. This band is more about embracing the future – the very loud future. Musically, Rhea Silvia lands somewhere on the very broad middle ground between Tool’s gray-toned modern rock and Wolfmother’s raw, power-trio, MC5-channeling vibe – thanks mostly to McClain, who pounds the shit out of those drums. There’s some bar-band funk in there, some guitar heroics – it’s all over the place, which, once you learn the band’s influences, makes sense."
Jeff Royer, Fly Magazine - April 2008
"Rhea Silvia just won Best New Artists at the 717 Awards and are on a roll with thier live shows. Packing in the Chameleon and many other places the band seems more like a veteran act then one who's only been together under a year."
Nick, The Doctor's Office April 2008
"The biggest surprise of the night was Rhea Silvia, again another 3 piece. These guys had so much energy and you can tell they truly love what they are doing. They’ve only been playing together for a little over 6 months and enjoying ever minute of it. They all work together and create some amazing rock songs that aren’t like anything else I’ve ever heard. They are working on their first EP, which should be out very soon. Everything is happening very quickly for them, they were even already voted the Best New Band for 2008 at the 717 Awards. Now I see why."
