Rhiannon the Catalyst, the NY underground, electro-soul vocalist and key player behind the scenes of New York's music and arts culture, was born in the magical wasteland of New Jersey but moved to California at the tender age of 14. There, hidden in L.A.'s warehouses, deserts, and forests she found her first love: dance music. Bearing witness to a full spectrum of the creative and destructive potentials of dance culture, she resolved to become an organizer and take matters into her own hands. Moving back to NYC, she quickly began to do just that, first throwing events on her own and later becoming the Music Director of massive venue The Lunatarium. Together with a small group of inspired and ambitious urban visionaries, she helped turn a 20,000 sq. ft. raw riverfront warehouse into one of the highest-profile underground venues in the nation. Managing the space as well as producing the majority of events, the crew received a "Best US Dance Music Venue" nomination by the Dancestar American Dance Music Awards in 2003 as well as awards from the NY Press, Village Voice and XLR8R, and being featured in a VH1 documentary. At Luna, Rhiannon had the privilege of working and performing alongside multitudes of the nation's most well known and respected production companies, artists, and publications and hosting some of the hottest domestic and international talent.
After booking events (later for the infamous Complacent) and singing with DJs of all different genres for years, Rhiannon joined two live-electronic groups and began releasing tracls on multiple record lables. Her current affiliates are Subatomic Sound, Dankfunk Records, Modus Vivendi Music, and the national all female DJ and MC Collective Sister.
She’s sung at festivals including The Loveparade,Winter Music Conference, Second Sunrise Music Festival, the Miambient Festival, and the Northtek Festival, and performed on bills with artists including Japanther, Kurtis Blow, Frankie Bones, DJ Spooky, Tortured Soul, Theivery Corporation, Matthew Dear, DB, Mad EP and Rich Medina.
One of her personal favorites was producing a song for a limited edition book by a street artists collective famed in the world of graffiti culture- the lavender themed and scented book contained prints by artists from around the world including Shepard Farey.
Currently she’s finishing Subatomic Sound System’s second album with the group and taking up the booking mantle once again for one of NYC’s secret new hot spots as well as writing and occasionally teaching NYC public school kids about media and music production.
Rhiannon!! Wow... its been a while! Seems like you are doing really well! I'll be in NYC this summer. Maybe our paths will cross. It would be great to catch up
