About ReelHeART
In 2004, the ReelHeART International Film Festival (RHIFF) was founded, by a film supporter and world traveler of Irish descent who speaks 3 languages.
Our founder had a vision that a new film festival could be formed to fill the void created by the growing trend of ’niche’ festivals. We are proud to call ourselves a ’truly open festival’, accepting films of all genres, countries and film lengths.
Knowing our founder speaks English, Spanish and French, was motivation to also promote English, Spanish and French as the "official languages" of ReelHeART. We will integrate these languages into our festival programming and promotional materials as often as possible. We hope to reach our goal of offering a fully tri-lingual web site in 2010.
To this end, films submitted in Spanish and French will not have to be subtitled specifically for our festival. This will also help bring cultural mix of dedicated sponsors, media and filmgoers to our event and establish long term relationships. We also believe this will add to the cultural and creative exchange throughout RHIFF from planning stages to launch of the 4th Annual ReelHeART International Film Festival (RHIFF) June 16-21, 2008 in Toronto, Canada.
ReelHeART is dedicated to supporting the need for exposure for ALL LEVELS of independent filmmakers around the world. We put emerging and student artists alongside established and master filmmakers in an effort that all filmmakers can be recognized for their art, rather than their credits.
We also have a goal to satisfy and challenge the interests of filmgoers and film supporters; to encourage, reward and celebrate the ’Real HeART’ of film and new media.
Whether filmgoer, filmmaker, reviewer, media or industry professional, the welcome and networking opportunities you experience at ReelHeART will be talked about from one year to the next!
In 2007 filmmakers from over 40 countries submitted their films to ReelHeART. In the USA, California and New York are the highest submitting states, followed by New England states and Western states. In 2007 Canadian submissions and award winners also increased.
ReelHeART International Film Festival in association with ACA Gallery started a monthly film series in October 2006, as the two artistic initiatives’ founders and directors share the belief that "Art Can Change The World", as is the motto of ACA Gallery.
The monthly selections are curated from past winners and audience favorites from the growing ReelHeART catalogue. The ReelHeART Monthly Film Series is a PWYC event, to benefit "kidsreadAfghanistan" the last Thursday of every month at 7PM.
ACA Gallery, 183 Queen Street East (at Jarvis), call ahead to reserve your spot, as space is limited - 416-703-2217
Regardless of genre, it’s the story we’re interested in. If your film has that balance of a terrific story, an interesting vision and solid production standards, then an audience should see your film.
Any Genre is accepted at ReelHeART: Drama, Comedy, Black Comedy, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Film Noir, Satire, Mocumentary, Animation, Experimental, Music Videos, and so on. And as everyone knows, we BIG on documentaries too! In the past few seasons, distribution buzz is first created from our roster of documentaries, and then word of mouth spreads regarding the quality of films in the rest of our categories-
We prefer your film to be a Premiere but, its not an absolute.
Never entered a film festival before? If you have a great film, a fun film, an outrageous film, a quirky film, an intense film; a film that will rip your heart out or a film that will make your ribs hurt with laughter, then ReelHeART is for you.
If you have never entered a competition before, ReelHeART should be your first film festival stop. The experience you gain here, the networking opportunities and the welcome you’ll receive are among our priorities and quite possibly one of the top film festival experiences you’ll ever have-
Stay tuned and keep visiting RHIFF@MYSPACE!

Whats poppin' ReelHeART International Film Festival (RHIFF)......The Wu-Tang Clan broke all the rules. Nine MCs shared the mic, all with equal aplomb. ....The RZA helmed the production, and through a pastiche of breaks, Stax samples, and kung-fu dialogue, created an indelible ghetto-noir soundscape as alien as it was alienating.....“Can It Be All So Simple,” with its disembodied soul diva and hiccupping bass is a moment of poignant reflection. ....Hype Williams did a great job in directing the amazing video for the song and bringing Ghost and Rae's words to life.........With all the copy that’s been devoted to Wu over the years, calling this video essential is an understatement, calling it classic is redundant, so if you If you haven't peeped this video in a while, or if you have never seen it make sure you check out Wu-Tang's Classic "Can It Be All So Simple" Video today:

I've been back in the edit suite and I've produced a leaner, meaner cut of Breakdown for MySpace's MyMovie MashUp. Check out this little black comedy of mine that was shot back in 2005 on next to no money and in the freezing cold.

"Masizakhe: Let Us Build Together" is a film that uses intergenerational spoken word, poetry, music, and hip hop, to narrate the mood of South Africans 11 years after freedom. The work showcased is interwoven with people talking about South Africa’s history and issues that South Africans are faced with today as these artist work to build each other.
