Rhoda Dakar began her career with the 2 Tone movement, as lead vocalist with all-female band the Bodysnatchers. Their first single, Do Rocksteady, b/w Ruder Than You, written by Rhoda and Gaz Rockin Blues Mayall, took them into the charts and onto Top of the Pops. She went on to guest with the Specials, both live and on record. The Boiler, a tale of date rape, much played by John Peel, was recorded with a version of the Special AKA. A later incarnation recorded the In The Studio album, from which came the acclaimed single Free Nelson Mandela.
Rhoda and Nick (Welsh) originally worked out an acoustic set for the 3 Men + Black '25 years of 2 Tone' tour. Two years later, they are playing together regularly as an acoustic duo, or with Nick’s band, Skaville UK. Their live set is filled with great new songs and the best of the old, together with the sparkling humour that is such a feature of their stage partnership.
Rhoda's first solo album is entitled, 'Cleaning In Another Woman's Kitchen'. It was released in November 2007.
Don't suppose you had a tenner on Mugabe to become president again? I think they were pretty short odds. What a world we live in. Makes you wonder sometimes. xxx
