Rhonda Denet has been described as a virtuoso who lends vocal flair to every song she sings, skillfully taking you from R&B and Jazz standards to “souled-out” pop favorites, to even her own inspirational ballads. This formally trained and soulfully gifted songbird completely covers the gamut. Denét can bottom out like Chaka or share air with Aretha.
Rhonda Denét is Brooklyn-based jazz/soul vocalist with a unique talent for blending classic Jazz standards with contemporary songs that are popular but not often performed. By the age of 9, the Washington, DC native knew the performing arts would be a guiding force in her life. She began to study flute and piano but by 11 she found her voice. .
She studied privately for several years, in addition to performing with several theatrical organizations and choirs. Having received tremendous encouragement from her teachers and directors, she moved to New York where she earned a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from New York University.
Denét continued her education and earned a graduate degree in Arts Administration from Florida State University’s School of Music. Then she returned to New York City and quickly reacquainted herself with the diverse music landscape. She spent several years writing and producing her brand of soul-infused cabaret, forming and working with a few bands and developing original music.
Since 2007 Rhonda has been building her full-time career in music; performing regularly as a band leader and lead vocalist with The Rhonda Denét Project, The Shepard Denét Trio and Groove Buffet and as a guest vocalist with Jelvis, Tomoko, Annekei and grammy-award winning bassist Benny Reitveld. In addition, she works with several producers providing vocals for song demos and recordings.
