About me:
One of my more interesting recent recording sessions can be heard on composer Katie Down's MySpace jukebox: www.myspace.com/katiedown ['Excerpt from Sheva' and 'Berimbau and Glass'] -- I'm too much of a Luddite to get my own Jukebox up and running at this time!!! A primitive!

I am a drummer, percussionist and Taketina rhythm teacher. Rooted in jazz and all American popular styles, I guess I can also be categorized as a 'world music' percussionist. Currently handling bongo/multi percussion with Brooklyn's CHICHA LIBRE (alongside excellent percussionist Timothy Quigley), composer/multi-instrumentalist Katie Down, occasionally priveleged to appear live with Las Rubias del Norte, dazzling tap dance with RhythMutation & others.

Performances and workshops (and private drum / percussion lessons!) in Germany, The Netherlands, Austria, Estonia, Italy, Hawaii, Chicago, California, Connecticut, Boston, Maine, and of course his home base of New York City.

Past professional engagements include: 2 guest appearances with Medeski Martin & Wood (Halloween shows at the Beacon Theater) ... 5 years as percussionist with Allessandra Belloni's Southern Italian-style music/theater ensemble I Giulari di Piazza ... Recent tours with dance ensemble Tap Fusion and Chicha Libre...

Open public workshops in TA KE TI NA: A certified Advanced teacher of Taketina--I offer workshops locally in NY City as well as nationwide and worldwide. Please feel free to contact me CDs, news, and open-to-the-public gigs!

Upcoming TA KE TI NA rhythm workshop info -- please visit: http://homepage.mac.com/greg_taketina/Personal42.html

I can be emailed directly at: "greg_b AT mac dot com".

Who I'd like to meet:
I'd like to meet Marlene Deitrich ... any member of the Bush Administration [so I could tweak their nose--really hard] ... Mata Hari ... J.G. Bennett ... Alan Watts ... Gurdjieff ... ... Dennis Kucinich ... I HAVE met: Buddy Rich ... Art Blakey ... Louie Bellson ... Butch Miles ... Ron Carter ... Sonia Braga ... I attended grade shool with Arturo Toscanini's great-granddaughter ... Frank Zappa ...

HiYaGreg,
yeah, that band was voted the top band down under in 1969 and that was one of the tunes I wrote for the band.
However, it was so long ago that it doesn't even feel like I was there...if you know what I mean!
All the best,
Wil

Haha, I'm glad it's fun, Greg.

The Japanese fellow that you referenced is Shin'ichi Kinoshita and he's playing a shamisen. The Indian fellow is U. Srinivas; he adapted the electric mandolin to karnatak, southern-Indian music. He's actually in John McLaughlin's Remember Shakti project, if you're familiar with that.
