| Rythmic Funktion: General Info
|
| Member Since | 11/13/2005 | | Band Website | You're already here! | | Band Members | Dan Hackborn is the lead singer, Kerry Bennicke plays funky-ass bass guitar, Kevin Trentham plays guitar and keyboards, Tom Merklinger plays guitar and supplies backing vocals, Kevin Hogstead plays drums and sings as well. | | Influences | Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante, Parliament/Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone, James Brown, The Band, Fugazi, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Rolling Stones, Queen, Guns N Roses, Beck, The White Stripes, Weezer, Bob Marley, | | Sounds Like | We have a unique sound, we don't sound like any one of our influences and we certainly don't sound like any of our contemporaries. Although the bass is not often a lead instrument, it's very prominent in the mix, because we are primarily a groove-based band. The guitars are often both rhythm instruments, although Tom is the lead guitar player and as such kick-ass solos are an inevitability, but they are also not a required part of each song. Often our instrumental parts are not flashy or prominent, but they are each interesting little bits which join with each other to create a whole. We try to be song-oriented rather than instrument-oriented. | | Type of Label | None |

| About Rythmic Funktion |
|
The tale begins to make sense in November, 2004. Born from the ashes of your stereotypical immature, male high school, pipe-dream, basement band we came. We are Rhythmic Funktion. And we are, if possible more immature, more male, and still in a basement having pipe dreams. All the better then.
But the story doesn't begin there. For that we have to go all the way back to the late 1980s, '87 or so, the year the world populations reached 5 billion, a porn star named Ciciollina won her right to represent her people on the Italian Parliament, and the US budget first reached the trillion dollar mark. Coincidentally condom commercials were first allowed on public television. The world was preparing itself for the advent of the most powerful force (sexual and otherwise) to ever manifest itself. This force was the birth of the members of Rhythmic Funktion. First in September of that year Kerry Bennicke was born, shortly followed by Tom Merklinger in the February of 1988. In the spring of that year the winds of change brought Kevin Trentham in June and Daniel Hackborn in August. Finally the cute one, little Kevin Hogstead was born a year after Kerry exactly, bringing the band full circle.
With little things like that out of the way we can go on to the juicy things that tabloids climax over. Tom and Dan have been friends pretty much since birth, while the other were all met around junior high or so. All are maritally single at this time, all are straight, and all of us are rather left wing, with some not even being Christian, which is rather blasphemous in the radically conservative prairie town where we live.
So basically we've stuck together through alot, and will continue to, groovin' to the funk of our own beat. You'll be hearing from us. Or at least from the crowds of screaming girls.
