Derek (aka The Rhythmist, Number 8, Boxbanga ) has been making electronic music since 1987. His deep and shuffled grooves layered with abstract textures and funky, disjointed melodies have a futuristic quality that gets your body moving. Inspired by groups like Art Of Noise, Kraftwerk, and Mantronix he started an all-synth band in high school with some friends. The band broke up shortly after graduating, so he started working on music solo. His first official release on a label was in 1994 on Flask (a subdivision of the now defunkt Silent Records) under the alias ‘Number 8. He teamed up with local veteran producer Mattski and Solid Trax label manager Lucas Rodenbush to launch the Trax Cafe project in 1997. Their EP helped Derek to land apperances on two compilations and to get his own EP on Resource Records in 2000. Since then he has also done releases for labels such as Random Access Recordings, SIXONESIX, Drugaci Exhibitions, Diggarama, and Audio Abuse.
Derek launched the DoBox Recordings netlabel in 2003 to promote his sound and other like-minded producers from around the world. Lately you can find him doing live PAs around the SF Bay Area solo, and live jam performances as part of the group Haptic Synapses (along with label mates Steve Cooley and Qorser).
After an uplifting, shocking and melodic period, Trish Van Eynde and Klaina decided to give the Technology events in Der Machine a break and go on with the true and soulfull Motorcitysounds concept.
Upcoming first edition of 2010 will be a celebration as we are doing the Motorcitysounds concepts and radio for one year now and we're even going more underground
The celebration will go on "26 february" at JH Paddestoel in Groot Bijgaarden (Groove City afterparty's location)
with line up :
Fabrice Lig LIVE (Kms, F Communications, Raygun Records, Starbaby, Third Ear Recordings, Minimaxima, etc...)
Trish Van Eynde (Subject Detroit, Tresor Berlin, Technology)
Hey, check out this brand new exclusive podcast from Franco Cangelli, Franco Cangelli [Mowar, Seventh Sign, Persistencebit, Aesthetik, Sushitech]
Franco Cangelli stands for an uncompromising quality punch, spiked with motorcity soulfulness, Chicago jack while still gently pushing the envelope. Feel free to call his music deep techno, Detroit techno, deep house… he doesn’t really care about monikers anyway.
Hailing from Gent Belgium, he made his debut with the successful 2005 release Spectre on Belgian imprint Toys For Boys. Since then he went on to release on various labels such as Sushitech, Aesthetik, Seventh Sign, Persistencebit and his own imprint Mowar.

Take the sound of "Rockit" era Herbie Hancock, add a dash of Blade Runner, a tip of the hat towards Drexciya and a hint of early industrial and you've got "Bypass The Body". OUT NOW on the finest digital stores and distributed worldwide by CLONE.
"Again As Phantoms (Pts. I & II)" leads things off and shows off outstanding songwriting skills and a mature palate of sounds. Biepang took a quick look in the rear-view mirror for inspiration before moving light years ahead with this one.
"Bypass The Body" Beyond the next level! Development between the bassline and the chord voicings is magic. The breakdown will make you shiver before the TWISTED wind up at the end.
"Deviant Personnel" This one is definitely from the wrong side of the tracks. Dark, mutated funk from beneath the waves.
"Neon Parallels" Heady, scintillating, synth-jazz from the new-school mastermind.
"Neon Parallels" is AMAZING! It made my iPod, which is reserved only for choice all time tracks that I love (mostly Jazz). VERY few Electro tracks on there! - Cozmo D (Newcleus)
"This EP reminds me of REAL electro in the early '80's. Tight and cool production. Enjoyed it a lot!" 4/5 -- Ken Ishii
"Great atmospheric track! Radio & club play." 5/5 -- Jori Hulkkonen
