A 6 piece celtic/rock band based in the Highlands of Scotland for over a decade, rhythmnreel are in high demand for gigs both throughout Scotland and overseas, most recently Holland, Germany, Switzerland and Stornoway!, playing music festivals & venues, marquee gigs, street parties, Highland Games/Gala Dances, corporate/private functions of just about every type, and other similar events.
The bands setlist at larger events such as festivals and music events, and our overseas gigs is celtic rock based (usually with a contemporary rock twist), including own arrangements of traditional Scottish tunes led by pipes, fiddle and accordian.
At other events the band throw in a clutch of classic celtic, folk & rock tunes for good measure.
The band is in the unique situation where it has 3 fantastic fiddle players who share the fiddle duties between them at the various gigs, and at some larger festival type gigs we have been known to have 2 or even all 3 on stage at the same time! Debbie Ross has played with the band for a number of years, and is responsible along with Catriona on pipes for putting together most of the celtic rock arrangements the band play and record. Paul Dzialdowski is a veteran and stalwart of the Feis movement and folk scene in the North of Scotland, and last but not least is Gillian Stevenson who has played in some of the countries best ceilidh bands over the past 20 years, and they come up with many of our traditional Scottish tunes.
In early 2007 the band were delighted to be joined by Dave Fleming on accoustic guitar and vocals. Dave is also a successful solo performer and song writer in his own right (see myspace link below). Donnie Mackillop also joined us around the same time on drums, having again played in a number of well known ceilidh and rock bands around the country and overseas over the past 25 years.
The band recorded a new 11 track album 'The Crossing' over the winter of 2008/2009 which was released in June 2009. The CD is available direct from the bands website online at www.rhythmnreel.co.uk/shop.htm, or from the band direct at gigs. It is also being retailed through a wide variety of internet based retailers and also on the High Street, including HMV and Borders. The 11 tracks include a broad mix of celtic rock, original tunes, traditional Scottish as well as a few of our favourite covers for good measure. The CD was engineered by Eric Cloughley from Skye and mixed at Chris Harley's Vital Spark Music, Broadford, Isle of Skye.
