   About Dennis Maberry
Dennis Maberry: Rhythmspirit
NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE - the new cd "Rhythmspirit" featuring special guests Olatunji's Drums of Passion member Gordy Ryan, Conga Joy author Bill Matthews, frame drum master Judy Piazza. and master percussionist Tor Dietrichson (from the legendary Diga Rhythm Band led by Mickey Hart). Buy the cd at www.cdbaby.com/cd/dennismaberry...... Dennis Maberry is a versatile percussionist who has studied a variety of traditional percussion methods including African, Afro Cuban, Afro Haitian, Middle Eastern Frame Drum, and rhythmic concepts of India. By blending these influences into a rhythmic stew Dennis has created a rhythmical style that is distinctively his own. Dennis was introduced to hand drums in the mid 90's while attending the World Rhythm Festival in Seattle, WA. He has taken classes with Olatunji's Drums of Passion member Gordy Ryan and Conga Joy author Bill Matthews (with whom he has recently recorded a track for Dennis' next cd), in addition to attending over fifty workshops with many great percussionists including Babatunde Olatunji, Leon Mobley, Judy Piazza (with whom he has recorded several tracks with for his next cd), Arthur Hull, Kalani, Kim Atkinson, and Raquy and the Cavemen, among others. He has also managed to fit in private instruction with several of the West Coast's top musicians..... He is the author of the popular instructional book "Drum Circle Grooves" featuring a foreword by Arthur Hull “Father of the Modern Drum Circle Movement”. The book is available through Amazon.com and Borders.com and www.lulu.com/rhythmspirit and through various percussion related websites. ...... Besides percussion based music Dennis is also active in other genres. Dennis is featured on drums and percussion on the debut release from eclectic acoustic group "Greta, Grits, and Gravy". Dennis plays with several of the Midwest Top Musicians including playing regularly with Bill Laymon (New Riders of the Purple Sage, David Nelson Band, Kingfish) and as a special guest sitting in with a wide variety of bands and musicians inlcuding Tom Irwin, Black Magic Johnson, the Dharma Bums, Perfunctory This Band, the Bourbon Bluegrass Band, the Luke Turasky Project, and Celtic Rock group Emerald Underground..... He has also played and/or recorded with a variety of musicians from several popular Midwest groups including NIL8, Enamel, the Suitcase Nukes, the Sarah Schneider Band, and the Bourbon Bluegrass Band, among others.... Dennis is also a popular teacher and workshop presenter. Workshops include a recent appearance at the 2008 Seattle World Rhythm Festival. He has taught the World Percussion class at University of Illinois Springfield and currently teaches classes and conducts workshops for the Lincoln Land Community College Adult Education Program. He has developed a highly popular workshop based on his book "Drum Circle Grooves". He has conducted children's workshops for schools, libraries, and after school programs. He has extensive experience working with special needs populations and has worked with organizations such as Special Olympics, SPARC, and the Mac. County School for Developmental Disabilities. Dennis has developed his "Rhythm is Life" program using the Health Rhythms protocol. Studies have demonstrated that group drumming has several beneficial health benefits including a healthier immune system and lower levels of stress. For this reason the Health Rhythms protocol is being used in a variety of health related organizations. Dennis has recently developed his "Everyone's Drumming: Developing and Implementing a Percussion Based Rhythm Program for Social Service Organizations". The program debuted at the Illinois Association for Rehab Facilities' (IARF) Annual Convention and was a hit. To find out more information on classes and workshops go to www.rhythmspirit.com

FGC will be celebrating Halloween punk-style, reprising their Green Day “costume” from last weekend’s Masquerade Ball at Three Sisters Park. Catch the band on Friday 10/30 at The Uptowner in Charleston, IL and Saturday 10/31 at the City Nights Theater in Springfield IL with The Station! Fans can expect fun renditions of a few Green Day tunes, along with a healthy dose of FGC music!

In other news, FGC is very excited about the band's new Video Blog, a weekly series featuring a behind the scenes look at FGC performances and touring. Check out the YouTube playlist for the last few editions, and stay tuned for more in the coming weeks!
