your question from some time ago. Many years ago I went to the shrophire hills camping. We stayed in a tiny campsite in little stretton and drank wem bitter in a pub whose name I forget(the crosskeys (?) I may be wrong. I remember a precipitous car journey (we came from flat buckinghamshire) to the top of the long myndd where, in those days,you could park but I always remember the day we went up stipperstones it was wet and foggy and I have an abiding memoru of the bog cotton and the sense of being close to civilisation but in some way cut off from it and I remeber liking that feeling. I went back a number of times to the area, the wem brewery died and I never remember that feeling again - it always seemed less desolate then, perhaps I had been spoilt by mountains in wales. Jenny and I went there once for a wedding anniversary just before Bel was born and we thought we would like to move there but then we looked in estate agent's window...
