Saxophonist and clarinetist. I like music, all kinds of music, still gets moved by music.
I was an obsesive music listener until I realized I could also make it myself, I then achieved my first sax and started blowig it all the time untill I decided to study in an academic way when I was already in an age of thinking "seriously", something which I always found quite hard. I then studied harmony, knew what counterpoint is, who John Cage was, played rhythm changes untill I found out how to do it right and then not to do it any more.
I started playing improvised music in Madrid with the ensemble "Soplathat", which I co-founded, at the same time as I was playing with latin bands like "La Moderna", in spanish popular music orchestras like "Vallecas Big Band" and other ad hoc ensembles.
I am member, and part of the organization board, of "Musicalibre", Spanish Association of Improvise Music, which organise every year the International Festival of Improvised Music "Hurta Cordel".
I am member of orquesta FOCO, with whom I have played during the last 10 years and participated in several editions of the international festival Hurta Cordel working with musicians like Butch Morris, William Parker, Walter Thomson, Wolfgang Fusch, Le Qua Ninh, Olivier Benoit or Dave Tucker.
Since in England I played with the quintet "Needs Must" (Leeds) which I co-founded together with drummer Neil Thomas and bass James Paylor. I also played in LCM ( Leeds College of Music) Duke Ellington orchestra under Tony Faulkner, the LCM Latin Big Band under Omar Puentes's conduction and collaborated with LIMA ORCHESTRA(Leeds Improvised Music Association), conducted by Dave Kane.
Since 2005 I live in London where I keep myself as active as I can in the london improvisation scene playing regulary with musicians like Dave Tucker, Veryan Weston, Roland Ramanan, Dominic Lash, Steve Noble, Adrian Northover, Alison Blunt, Frank Charlton, Tony Marsh, Mark Sanders, Yedo Gibson, Nick Stevens, Andrew Melville.
Recently I launched the cd PROGRESSIONS with the " Ensemble Progresivo" , www.myspace.com/ensembleprogresivo, and very soon Mexpanglo will release its first record "Machinations of Joy", www.mexpanglo.com.

Hey Ricardo! Pues como siempre las casualidades rondan cerca, estos días me he acordado de ti! ¿cómo salieron los workshops peninsulares? En diciembre vamos a Londres, así que esa será una oportunidad para vernos y muy porbablemente tocar de nuevo... Por lo demás, tal vez podríamos pensar en organizar alguna cosa juntos para el 2010...
