  • Bio

As a label "singer songwriter" is far too grand for someone who so clearly struggles to sing and play music! However, Richard has been trying to write songs for many years but has had the decency to enforce these only on the captive audience of his family. Pushed into performing live as the only way to have his work heard by others and to test reactions to his songs, he has succumbed to requests to join the myspace generation. His small ambition is that someone somewhere may like something presented here, whilst his big ambition is to one day hear one of his songs performed well (by others). The 'songs' presented here are simple demos - please stop by and add comments - let me know what works and what doesn't!

I think it's pretty obviously just me! Occasionally, however, I do get to drag in some unfortunate but talented musicians to help me play live: watch out for "Ad-Lib" featuring - depending on the day - Chris Farnham (double/bass and guitar), Simon Hallett (percussion and wind instruments), and Grahame Poole (blues harp); and watch out for ARC which has Chris Farnham and I, along with Abby Dalgleish (violin, flute and mandolin).
  • Influences

Every piece of music is an influence - some positive and inspirational, others less so. The most positive influences are: the poets disguised as musicians such as Jacques Brel, Dylan, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Steve Harley, Springsteen, Bowie; the raw emotional deliveries from people like Odetta, Billie Holliday, Johnny Cash; the roots musicians of the blues, bluegrass, cajun, zydeco; with a little spare room for the sheer charisma and personality of Elvis.

That could only be an insult to anyone named!
