Richard Henry (Platypus Promotions) has been a vibrant party promoter ever since the early 90s as a NYC youngster . Richard left New York in 2000 to move to Cali. He stopped in Austin on his way and never left. Richard started DJing in 2006 after leaving his punk rock band and looking to make a solo musical move. As a DJ, Richard is drawn to underground urban party music and has traveled extensively collecting tunes--New Orleans for Bounce, Baltimore for B-more house, and someday Brazil to increase his already outstanding Balie Funk collection. When not promoting, DJing or partying, Richard can be found watching movies at home with his two giant dogs.
Short bio by me for you:
I’m going to write something different than the typical stock bio that you see with I opened with blah blah, booked blah blah cause honestly i find reading that boring. If your really interested in that check out my website for all the good stuff. All that good stuff.
I’ve been pretty much hosting and producing shows since 1992 and handling guerilla marketing since 1988. Dealing with all genres of film and music but with a focus on urban culture and international relations. I used to work with a magazine called Feedback Magazine in Austin TX among many others. Musically I’ve been DJing different genres of music, also play French horn and a little of the piano if the mood fits it. Currently working on production of original material and forming a live band to play these tunes that pop in my head when I’m at the food mart or walking the dog in a town near you. I tend to travel a bit due to my love of seeing different cultures and learning from. I’m also a student still at some place we call college for biochemistry and economics cause I simply find it interesting. I have two turtles named Ren and Stimpy and a wonderful loving Ole English Sheepdog named Jolie. One of my favorite songs is Blueberry Hill by fats Domino. I have a love for jazz, Baile Funk, dub, breaks, miami bass, dancehall, down tempo, soul, and music from the 60s since I was 3 feet high. Thank you for the love and all. If any questions or booking or just want to kick it like evil dee holla at my website for contact info.
Cheers,
richard
