Classically trained with an extensive music repertoire in orchestral, electronic, jazz and many other contemporary music genres, Richard Jacques is an award-winning composer of music for video games, film and television. He is internationally recognized as one of the A-list composers in the video games industry, described by PLAY Magazine (US) as “One of the truly distinctive game music composers in the industry today.”
Richard Jacques has received numerous awards and accolades for his music including Best Original Music Awards from GameSpot and GameSpy and the Game Audio Network Guild Recognition Award, in addition to multiple nominations for Music of the Year, Best Original Instrumental Song, Best Live Performance Recording and Best Original Soundtrack Album.
Continually in high demand from the world’s top video game studios, Richard Jacques recently scored cinematics and additional in-game music for MASS EFFECT (BioWare/Microsoft) and the original scores for THE CLUB (Bizarre Creations/SEGA) and CONFLICT: DENIED OPS (Pivotal Games/Eidos). He is currently scoring several high profile projects to be announced as well as the original score for EIGHT DAYS (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe).
A pioneer in the field of modern game scoring, Jacques’ highly acclaimed live orchestral score for SEGA Europe’s cinematic action/adventure title HEADHUNTER was the first video game soundtrack to utilize the world famous Abbey Road Studios’ Studio One and record with the A-list musicians of the London Session Orchestra.
His other scoring credits include: PURSUIT FORCE (Sony), BATTLESTATIONS: MIDWAY (Eidos), STARSHIP TROOPERS (Empire), HEADHUNTER: REDEMPTION (SEGA), OUTRUN 2 (SEGA), JET SET RADIO FUTURE (SEGA), JET SET RADIO (SEGA), METROPOLIS STREET RACER (SEGA), SONIC R (SEGA).
In addition to his prolific scoring assignments, Richard Jacques' music is a popular attraction on the live concert circuit. In 2005, his anthemic music from HEADHUNTER was performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl for "Video Games Live" to more than 11, 000 fans of video games and orchestral and choral music. In 2006, Jacques performed a candle-lit piano recital at the GameCity Festival in Nottingham, featuring a retrospective of some of the most loved SEGA classics and treating the audience to a series of specially arranged renditions. In November 2006, Jacques’ HEADHUNTER theme music and SONIC orchestrations were performed during the UK debut of Video Games Live at Hammersmith Apollo in London. In November 2007, he performed the music of OUTRUN - accompanied by a Latin brass section and percussionist - at the Royal Festival Hall for Video Games Live.
Richard Jacques also writes music for television and film productions from his studio in London.
