Richard Kitson hails from Sheffield but has lived in Barnsley for most of his 26 years. His acoustic career began when his first band split up and he didn't want to stop gigging. Influenced by the likes of Dylan, Big Bill Broonzy, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Rory Gallagher and the artists of the 60's folk/roots revival, Kitson began penning his own folk based songs at the age of fifteen and strummed his way into the folk clubs of the vibrant and varied Sheffield music scene. He began studying the roots of the music he was emerced in and found his love of early country and delta blues.
His live shows consist of him performing both his own compositions and covers by the likes of Bog Bill Broonzy, Lead belly, Robert Johnson and Rory Gallagher among a few others. With his flat-picking, fingerpicking and slide guitar style paying homage to the roots of popular music, his self penned songs remain fresh and uncompromising and in the words of one observer he is "an engaging performer who the audience quickly warms to, greatly appreciating his inventive and talented finger picking and slide guitar playing".
Kitson also fronts blues/rock band ALSO JACK (see top friends).

...his influences are as diverse as the recognised compass points of; Dylan, Lennon and Cash to Blues legends such as Big Bill Broonzy, Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters... Noggin, Blues Matters Magazine, aug/sept issue

The lyrics to his songs often use some quite different imagery than the norm...very refreshing to these jaded ears that have heard "There's a Red House..." more times than is good for ones health!.. R.Jim Greaves, Blues in Britain, Feb 08..
