Richard Leigh is a seven-time nominee in the “Song of the Year”
category. To date he has won the Grammy Award,the Country Music
Association Award, the Academy of Country Music Award, and the
Nashville Songwriters Association award for “Song Of The Year”.
His songs have made fourteen trips to the Top Ten, and to date he has
Eight Number 1 records to his credit. Some of his songs include: “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” (Crystal Gayle), “Somewhere In My Broken Heart” (Billy Dean), “Cold Day In July” (The Dixie Chicks) and
“The Greatest Man I Never Knew” (Reba McEntire, Billy Dean).
To date his songs have sold over 50 million records.
Richard Leigh was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame
in 1994.
Currently, Richard is performing around the country promoting his collab-
orative CD titled "Billy Dean Sings Richard Leigh”, which is scheduled
to be released early August, 2009. “The King of Cry” is Richard’s newest

In 1979 Richard won the Country Music Association's Song of the Year
Award for "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue”. This song reached the Number 1 position on both Pop and Country charts, the first country song ever
to do so. It remained on the charts for more than six months; and was
nominated for Grammy Awards in both Pop and Country "Best Song"
categories; (A feat not repeated until 1993), and “Don’t It Make My
Brown Eyes Blue” won the Grammy for "Best Country Song".
It became a million+ selling single, and at the 1999 ACSCAP Awards
was named one of the ten "Most Performed Country Songs Of the Century"
