There are very few electric guitarists on this planet that can actually be called world
class and Richard Mikuls is one of them. The legend himself, Eric
Clapton, happened upon one of Richard’s gigs in the Palm Springs area. Sitting at
one of the tables the great one listened to 3 or 4 red hot solos turned to his friend and
proclaimed, "This man could teach me blues guitar all over again." As a guitarist one
can’t have higher praise than that.
Rich grew up in the lush hills and rocky cliffs of the Palos Verdes Peninsula
(a secluded suburb of Los Angeles) where an odd coterie of talented young artists
and musicians cut their baby teeth. In fact Richard’s first band included the talents
of another legendary guitarist (in the Jazz field) Lee Ritenour.
As a teenager In the early seventies Rich worked as a staff writer and utility session
musician at a then nascent Warner Bros. Publishing Co. After which he quickly
morphed into a much sought after session-man and has been in demand ever since.
One has only to look at some of the greats Rich has worked with to know he’s in a
class by himself...The list is long and includes:
Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Donny Hathaway, Freddie Hubbard, BB King, Ike
and Tina Turner, James Moody, Stan Getz, Chuck Berry, Sly Stone, Quincy Jones,
Ray Charles, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Pointer Sisters, Bobby Bradford,
Daryl Coley and it goes on and
on...
Since 2001, Richard has been working almost exclusively with Peter Tork and Shoe
Suede Blues. He has recorded two albums with Peter and the band,
"Saved by The Blues" and "Cambria Hotel".
Some of Richard’s other entertainment business acomplishments include:
Ellen, Home Improvement, Unhappily Ever After, Home Boys from Outer Space,
Soul Man, Boy Meets World, The Big Green, The Last Dance, Paul Mitchell
Hair Products, Coors Beer, Isuzu, Honda - Acura, and the House of Blues
Radio Show.
Richard has two solo cd’s, "Evil Secret Agent" and "Blow and Go". A dvd of his critically acclaimed photography and artwork is due in the Spring of 2008.
