Richard Sven is a multi-instrumentalist (keyboards, bass and guitar), composer, arranger and producer. He studied classical music on his first instrument, the piano, from the age of six. His professional music career began in 1993, when armed with a graduate degree in Geophysics from M.I.T. , he decided to pursue music. It was after all his passion! He began by producing jingles then ventured into commercial music for documentaries, plays, dance performances and short films.
Richard Sven's music has no language, no border, and no colour. It is not uncommon for him to have R&B drums, Indian percussion, Reggae bass, Jazz piano chordings, Rock guitars and Classical strings all quite harmoniously coexisting in one musical piece. It would also not be surprising, to find him working on an Egyptian flavoured project and in his very next project to be quite conversant in the idiom of Brazilian Samba. The common thread is his creativity and professionalism. "Time spent trying to force music into definitive categories can be better utilised by letting the music touch you, losing yourself in it, and allowing it to take you to a different place and time."
Richard Sven has also been very busy, producing alternative Jamaican music with artistes such as Allison Lee, Della Manley, Voodu Kultur, NePaul, and Heather Rose. He is also a much in demand bassist/keyboardist for live performances for several alternative music artistes in Jamaica.
He describes himself as a sound sculptist using music/sound as a palette to craft audio masterpieces. Of all his interests, his greatest passion is scoring music for films. "More than any other media, film allows me to combine musical elements from around the globe that have influenced me, and, at the same time, touch the base of human emotions."
