Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of 2003's Top 20 Guitarists
of all-time and the recent recipient of both an Ivor Novello Award for Songwriting and the
2006 BBC Lifetime Achievement Award, the iconic British folk rock legend is one of the world's most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters. His work is admired and recorded by such artists as Bonnie Raitt, David Byrne and Elvis Costello. From his teenage years as a founding member of the 1960's pioneering group Fairport Convention to duo work with his then-wife, Linda Thompson, and over 20 years as a solo artist, to scoring Werner Hertzog's 2005 documentary 'Grizzly Man', Richard Thompson's astounding body of work includes over 40 albums of lyrical wit anchored by such a singular acoustic and electric guitar delivery that Newsweek recently announced, 'like all genuine art, it satisfies completely.'
Thanks for the add. Hope you enjoyed Wilmington. I am sorry your #1 DH fan John Anstreiker could not afford to buy a ticket. I was lucky to get a free pass since I had a guitar. (I am going to order Rickenbacker type pickups for that guitar with the money I saved)
By the way, I'm still trying to play like you. I should say, I've been trying to add elements of your style to mine.
I've been hybrid picking for a year, learning various unorthodox scales, and learning what I can from an RT tabs site. Really, there is no one out there who plays like you, and it's hard to learn a style when no one else but the original master is playing it.
Sometimes I do find myself sounding vaguely like you, though that may be from listening to you non-stop for such a long time. After all, there isn't any one lick that is a signature RT lick. My problem is, I sound too bluesy, which may just be apart of my natural style, but I really want to be devoid of it like you.
Anyway, maybe if I become a rockstar you'll hear me and think, "Well, that kinda sounds like me".
Hi Richard, Hope your upcoming tour goes well and there will be a lot of musical joy! Your playing, your songs, your singing... thoughtful, powerful - brilliant! Take care and if you do happen do get a chance and you are so inclined... please stop by my page and have a listen to some of my songs (piano/vocal demos). Hope you'll enjoy them.
Thanks for adding ! Nice to mention that when we reunited as a band in 2005, we started doing a dutch translated and slow 2/4 measure version of 'The poor ditching boy' during rehearsals, called 'Een afgedankt man'. greetings Frank Holthuizen / Surmeuse, Woodhouse & DeHand
Thanks so much for the add and the two wonderful nights in Sacramento. By the way, did you ever remember the riff for "Gethsemene" ? All the best to you and yours and see you in Petaluma in December if not before.
Hi RT, Thanks for adding us! Your music bears a sparkle of rememberance, comes like an instant punch in the mind and soul of a listener...Thanks for the inspiration and for always sharing your music and the emotions. Best Wishes Ante, NR
