1920s & 30s pop and jazz, movies (not just old), TV (Dexter, Brotherhood, House, FNC).
Music
I like crisp, early 30s dance band records, such as Bert Lown. Hot jazz of all sorts, including Bix Beiderbecke, Red Allen, Jimmie Noone, Louis, Lang and Venuti and the Dorsey Brothers. I'm a Crosby guy, but also enjoy Al Bowlly, Cliff Edwards, Connie Boswell and Marion Harris.
Movies
Seldom disappointed with Coen Brothers.
Television
See above.
Books
Read mostly music reference books. Last fiction I finished was "The Great Kisser," a collection of stories by David Evanier. Finally finished a biography of Dennis Potter. Time to watch "The Singing Detective" again.
Heroes
Soupy Sales, Howard Stern, Phil Hendrie, Bing Crosby.
About me: The radio show's the main thing. Most of the rest of what I do spins off that: buying and selling records, etc. Even after 36+ years, I know that I'm only as good as my last show, and my future depends on how well I do my job. "The Big Broadcast" can be heard in NYC Sundays from 8-Midnight on 90.7 WFUV-FM, and streams at www.bigbroadcast.com. Two or three archived shows and playlists are available 24/7 at www.wfuv.org.
Who I'd like to meet: The guy who wrote "The Stein Song."
Rich, you got a nice plug in the recent issue of the International Club Crosby quaterly magazine! It's about time because I know what a great admirer you are of Bing and it was nice to your name in several spots. Congratulations!
Happy birthday! I still reeling from Johnny Mercer's centenial and then Rich Conaty hits the double nickels! All I can say is "You must've been a beautiful baby"! Many Happy Returns!
Happy Birthday to you!!! You have been bringing delight to my Sunday evenings (and into the night) for many years. May you keep the glow in your voice that always makes me think you are smiling. Take care and I hope you have a terrific Birthday and many more to come.
As our Old Big Broadcaster would say, "Aloha and May God Bless America", Sheila
These are the first draft ideas for the brochure for the lima, peru premiere for my the tribute to the silent movie era film RETURN TO BABYLON. Which do you prefer? Hat or no hat?
I am so pleased to be your friend! Did you want to attend my birthday party? Just go to my Blog and enjoy the absinthe and canapes, hot jazz, dancing and floor show and of course champagne! Leave a note as I have a dance partner for you who I think you know. As far as my singing. I think you know what I do. I've added quite a bit of my music and history so you can scan what you like. I'm just worried you won't have the time to go to the party! Your friend, Annette, "That's All."
Heard the news yesterday and immediately thought of you. So sorry for your loss, Rich. So sorry to the family too, but SO grateful for him to have walked this earth!!
