Let me tell you, not only can he play a great blues guitar, sing and write original tunes and puts together a great horn section to! Richie's trks. will always be a part of my permanent Jump Blues playlist. His CD's are well engineered,mixed and produced given that many of the tracks are recorded from "Live" events I can't stop playing them. I love the " No trouble Tonight" jam on "That's why I sing Da Blues" CD. where each band member strut's their stuff. Believe me,they have got the chops.I am especially fond of his arrangement of BB-Kings "Thats why I sing the Blues" I love those horns and everything else too!! CD review, Richie Barron "Hwy. 2000"
Guitar slinger Richie Barron's latest offering both rocks and bops along"Highway 2000".The San Francisco Bay artist began his career as a guitar-vocalist cutting his blues theeth in clubs fromDallas to Chicago. Toured with ZZ-Top drummer Frank Beard. "Highway" has a little something for everyone with 11 orginals. "Doctor Tequila" starts the party rolling,and Barron recalls his time on the road in his "Nomad Chevrolet" or dropping by "Grandpa's Farm" He had some fun along the way as he testifies to in "Tahoe Boogie" [ "Up where the dice are rollin, whiskey flowin free"] Some of his vocals recall Leon Russel and Barron makes it clear he's paid some dues with " Down to the end of the Line" and "Waiting on the Mailman." Barron has assembled one of the finest bands playing the blues today. Live, Richie Barron and the Blues Crew certainly pack a wallop. At a recent show at Easy Riders HD in Santa Cruz, Barron was in great form. His powerful blues vocals and well honed Gibson Les Paul defined each song. The musical interplay between Barron and slide guitarist Burgstaler was nothing short of magnificent,especially on "Somebody,s got to go"" To damn good to last" " Gold country Blues" and Tahoe Boogie".
