Everly Brothers, Beatles ,Beachboys (Carl Wilson), & The 60's Girl groups ..WOW
My brothers in music(The Knickerbockers) who helped me grow..some of my best memories
....and I must say I've spent most of my music life listening and learning from ...Sir Paul McCartney.... So magical
I grew up Northern New Jersey as a country boy who played sports and had a passion for music. I loved vocals from the start, listening to The Everly Brothers and paying close attention to the 60s girl groups. Their vocals and the songs had me hooked on music. Then of course, like most musicians of my time... we were turned upside down when these four Lads from Liverpool came on the news. I remember it well and at that point, I knew that music was what I wanted to do in life. In 1967, I came to Hollywood, CA. This was the first time I was away from home. I met another group from New Jersey the Knickerbockers …WOW! What a great group. I started sitting in and singing. The amazing thing was, the saying "being at the right place at the right time" couldn’t be more true for me. I joined the group--this was the most awesome thing that could happen to me--to be with guys from N.J. and, to be with the greatest group Musically and vocally! Truly the best possible thing that could happen . I’m totally blessed to be in this group who took me under their wings. It was great... when I didn’t sing loud enough Beau Charles would yell "Eat that mic!" In time we were tight and good--real good. In 1970, we put a tape together, had three or four deals and went with Motown Records. My big lesson in music was about to hit me right where it hurts the most (in the heart). ..."there are no guarantees". The group took a hard hit. I then did studio vocals for commercials and different artists. In 1978, I worked on a solo project with Randy Meisner, a co-founding member of The Eagles. Again in 1980, I participated on Randy’s album, "One More Song". After the pain of the Motown disaster, Beau Charles and I started writing songs again. We also worked doing vocals and varied projects. Approximately 11 years ago, I had my mom, who was getting older and not in very good shape, move in with me. I tried doing music but it was time to put it on hold. My mom was old school and no matter how much music I did, I would always hear "Why don’t you get a real job”. When my mom moved in with me, something Amazing happened. During 11 years of hearing my songs she realized her son had talent and should be doing music. My mom passed away at home and the important part of this story is... about a month before her passing she said to me, "Your songs are great. Let people hear your songs.” Amazing what 11 years can do. So finally... "Mom people are hearing my songs." This CD is dedicated to my mom.
As Christmas approaches I would like to wish you and your family a very special Festive celebration.
"Beautiful is the moment in which we understand that we are no more than an instrument of God; we live only as long as God wants us to live; we can do only as much as God makes us able to; we are only as intelligent as God would have us be." Archbishop Oscar Romero, from his last homily, March 23, 1980.
I hope you like my Christmas card, poem and additional card/pictures. May your love “glow.”
Paul.
“Candle in the window.”
“A light as pure as an Angels Glow A gentle breeze sparks a flickering light to Heavens Path. Through the open window flies a brown majestic Moth He dances round the table cloth Fluttering flirtatiously enticed to the flame Like water to a cloud and flowers in the rain.
An aura of starlight Glowing embers of radiance so clear You take away the darkness The hopelessness, the fear.
Calming, graceful, romancing, dancing on the window sill A light for my memories Inspiration for my dreams A candle by the open window God Bless the Grace you give me A moment so serene.”
