Chris Ricketts is a fantastic performer who manages to successfully combine medern day songwriting with some traditional songs. Ricketts writes in a traditional style and has managed to wow audiences up and down the UK.
Some songwriters and folk singers invest themselves in the melody, creating a tune that carries emotions and influences the mood of an audience. Others prefer to craft lyrics explicitly laying their feelings bare for the listener or fashioning stories and influences that express their thoughts. All too few are the musicians who can do both, but Chris Ricketts stands deservedly in their company.
Only a young man, Ricketts has already created waves, not only in his hometown of Portsmouth, but up and down England and on his regular trips to various folk clubs where he is a regular performer. Chris has played at some of the capitals most popular venues. With a strong set of songs crafted in intimate venues, Chris has long written and interpreted in a way that takes elements from his strongest influences, names like Martyn Joseph, Martin Simpson, and John Tams, and threads them through his own stories and tunes to create a unique sound that reflects the life he leads through the simple beauty of voice and guitar.
Ricketts has rapidly become a central cog of a rapidly growing English folk music scene that has at its centre a mixture of fantastic musicians, each working with the other and drawing collective and individual experiences and influences together to create a mood of encouraging and friendly competitiveness.
Ricketts has played many gig dates with great performers of both the folk and songwriting scene. He has been on the same bill as the fantastic John Tams, Country Joe McDonald, Martin Simpson and the fantastic PJ Wright and Dave Pegg to name just a few.
Ricketts was also a finalist in the much credited BBC Young Folk Awards managing to reach the final 12 in the competition. His gigs have had great reviews across the board and live performance is a must see! Recieving reviews also from some of his own favourite performers such as Martyn Joseph and Steve Knightley (Show Of Hands). Chris is a must see on the folk scene!

Big gig for Rusty Strings coming up... We're playing at The Wedgewood Rooms in Southsea on Wednesday 8th July. It's a battle of the bands with a chance to win recording, etc. It's decided by judges and audience votes so we need as many people there as possible to help us out. Doors are at 8pm and we're on second. Tickets cost £5 and if you give us a message we can sort out dropping one off to you. Hope you can make it :)
