"Born and raised in Baltimore , Maryland , Rick Hack got his start in music at the age of 5 years old when he sang at his aunt’s house in front of her fireplace. Even at that age, he realized, from the reaction of his family, he could carry a tune. It must have been in his DNA as his grandmother used to sing on the radio and at family reunions in 3-part harmonies. But it wasn’t until high school when he used to record himself singing and playing the clarinet that he recognized he needed to become a musician. He auditioned for a role in a high school musical Damn Yankees, got the part and received overwhelming feed back on his singing.
Rick eventually moved to Columbia , South Carolina for college. It was in Columbia , South Carolina in 1995 where Rick toured with The Tinbenders for over four years playing along side Hootie and The Blow Fish, Modern English, Big Wreck, Tonic, Edwin McCain, Drivin' and Cryin', Athenaeum, the Root Doctors, and Cowboy Mouth.
With influence of 80's pop rock to progressive and hard rock, The Tinbenders presented strong performances with high energy, superior musicianship, and a great multi-faceted vocal presence.
Rick was successful in touring with Tinbenders, but in the back of his mind, he needed to pursue another line of business. Rick decided to leave South Carolina in 2000 to venture to the west coast. Shortly thereafter, music haunted Rick, and he ended up performing on his own and expanding his talent by playing guitar, becoming a singer/songwriter and landing gigs in San Francisco. Music was in Rick’s blood and after only a year in San Francisco, Rick decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue the entertainment business.
It was in Los Angeles where he then decided to go out on his own and form the Rick Hack Band and join forces with John Kurimai, a graduate of Berklee College of Music. John has performed with such artists as Brian Adams, Sammy Haggar and Michael Anthony. John and Rick share similar passion and appreciation for great music with harmonies and soul. They make it their mission to dedicate themselves to produce the sounds of yesterday with a modern edge. Rick and John have graced the stages of major venues in the Los Angeles area such as The Viper Room, Knitting Factory, Mood and can even be seen in intimate settings including The Falcon, Hotel Cafe, The Derby, and Universal Bar and Grill.
Rick's voice and John's rhythm have been recognized by agents, filmmakers and producers as their fanbase and momentum continues to swell with each performance. The Rick Hack Band is looking forward to sharing their unique blend of Americana, Rock, and singer songwriter styles with the incredible listening community."
