Sounds Like
It really depends on if I try to sing when I first wake up in the morning. Then, I don't sound like anyone I wanna know. If I've been up for awhile, I pretty much sound like myself which incorporates the elements of Elvis, Garth Brooks, Nat King Cole, Toby Keith, Johnny Mathis and even George Strait. How do you like that for a mix? Really depends on the song...maybe they sound like me.
I grew up in a small town on Long Island, New York, called Bay Shore.Actually it was so small that it wasn’t considered a town,it was called a hamlet. Don’t even ask. Like so many singers, I grew up singing in church. My parents exposed me to all kinds of music, calypso, opera, country, rock n roll, R & B, jazz, Broadway and Show tunes. My dad was a chemist during the week, but what stood out for me was that he was an amateur singer; and oh, he had an incredible voice. My mom just loved all kinds of music and I fell in love with almost all of them.
I ended up serving our great country in the Army, my first tour of duty was Vietnam; I was 20 years old. It forced me to grow up; I then ventured out into the world and did things that grown-ups do for many years, like raise a family. Many years later, I started acting and singing professionally.
I have been a veteran singer who has wandered around just singing, until now. I've had so many influences, in various music styles. I've sung with great singers, such as, Grammy award winner Patti Austin, Tony Award winners, Lilias White and Cleavant Derricks. I've even sung with the Famous R& B group, Platters (second generation). In spite of sharing the stage with some of the greats, I continued my search for a style that made me come alive and allowed me to be more passionate about performing. Of course, just like everyone else, I've lived life and I want to share it...stories that we can all relate to. So I will tell my stories, in my own way, songs about love and hurt, family, and about being a Vietnam Veteran in a very unpopular war and being an unpopular soldier when I got out. I have found a home in country music because that's where I can sing from my soul, a place where I've had to visit many, many times. To me, growing up in the country doesn't necessarily make you a great country artist. The most important thing is that you tell your story and be country in your heart, regardless of where you're from.
I love country music. Not only does it make me feel good, but its fun to sing whether it be a tender love song or an upbeat story that makes you want to get up and dance. It’s bold, sometimes edgy, yet simple. Its real life, telling it like it is at any given time.
My CD, It’s All Good is a combination of various country styles ranging from contemporary country and swing, to country rock. It’s mostly the kind of songs that make you feel real good.
These songs represent how I feel about life…keep it real, try and stay positive even when it’s trying to beat you down.
By the way, I co-wrote "It's All Love" and "To Be Loved By You" on this CD. Check them out. I certainly hope that I can make you a fan.
Just to let you know, I've had the privilege of working with Nashville's finest on this CD. Tom Paden, songwriter and producer, wrote 9 of the 12 songs (2 with me) on this CD and also produced it. My musicians on It's All Good are, Larry Beaird, Chris Leuzinger, Glen Duncan, Duncan Mullins, Paul Scholten, Mike Rojas, Scotty Sanders and Robby Turner. These are the best session players that Nashville or any place, has to offer!
