Singer/songwriter, Rick Roark has worked around Nashville and Los Angeles since 1985 singing, writing & recording music. However, if you ask him, he’s the least recognizable person to ever come along. In his own words, “I’m just your average joe who love’s music and that wonderful feeling you get when creating it – I like the thought of some person you don’t even know hearing your message and (hopefully) liking it!”
In the 1980’s his daytime job was to write and sing jingles for a music company located in Nashville, Tennessee where he resided. Conversely, at night he sang as the lead vocalist in various rock bands that he had either formed or co-formed with some of Nashville's finest studio musicians. Rick viewed these activities as therapy for his stage fright - stating, “I was always scared to perform in front of people and amazed that no one knew of my paralyzing fear. I figured, well - I'll just confront my fears head on and put myself in a position where I have to get on stage. After the first few notes I was fine; however, to this day I still get nervous before performing in front of folks!”
Critics have said that his performances are mesmerizing; stories sung so believably, it was as if he were singing the words for the very first time. “Honest renditions are my ace in the hole,” say’s Roark. “I can’t rely on my age, looks or nerves – but if I sing a story that I believe in, it gets me through the performance!”
Rick’s 2001 release, “Remember Me” is testament to his story telling ability and is currently being played on radio stations across the USA and overseas. It is a powerful, heartfelt tribute to all Americans and was written after watching the catastrophic events unfold on television (9/11/2001) when the terrorists struck the Twin Towers in New York. When asked, Rick said, "initially, I wrote it for myself as an emotional response to that terrible day - but over the years, “Remember Me” has been steadily reaching other Americans around the world who understand and empathize with the song’s patriotic meaning."
Accordingly, the kind reviews and well-received response from radio listeners has led to invitations for Rick to perform "Remember Me" on the same stage as Crystal Gayle and Lee Greenwood while honoring US troops returning from Iraq. These galas were thrown for the soldiers and their families who had to endure service rotations.
Heartfelt email from soldiers (and military families) that described their appreciation of the song prompted the decision to donate all proceeds from sales (CD or digital downloads) to a highly regarded charity, Disabled American Veterans (www.DAV.org) This noble charity benefits our brave wounded soldiers both physically and mentally and provides support for their families. To purchase “Remember Me” you can download it from any digital download site straight to your computer or IPOD. If you want to buy the cd itself go to www.cdbaby.com/cd/rroark2 and remember all proceeds go to our troops in need.
