About me:
I believe that it is the artist’s role to push the edges of what is considered art. For if not the artist, who ? I choose to use contemporary materials in my artwork as they best reflect today’s world. When I started experimenting in the late seventies, I had no idea of the scope of what I was developing. My intention was to create my own art form, and at that I have been quite successful, having sold many hundreds of pieces over the last twenty years. I have also had several television spots done on me including The Discovery Channel’s Daily Planet where I was filmed bending a piece of glass into a sculpture without heat. As well, I have had numerous published articles, local, national, and international, and many radio interviews
The techniques I developed for painting on glass are multi-dimensional in appearance and can be created on canvas or board, as well. My patented formula for bending glass without heat allows me to create large glass sculptures without the limitations faced when using heat. Most recently I have been concentrating on creating large outdoor glass installations using my “shaped shatter” technique. This technique allows me to create modular sculptures that are easy to ship and install. They are also designed to be vandal and weather resistant.
I have many visions yet to create which I hope I can accomplish in this lifetime. As well as teaching some of these techniques.
I reside with my wife and daughter and have a studio in Sidney, British Columbia Canada.

Who I'd like to meet: Artists who specialize in developing their own artistic medium/s. Patrons and Collectors who are interested in new art forms. Galleries who wish to represent my work. Most of my input material is recycled tempered plate glass so I am always looking for suppliers. I always enjoy talking to interesting, intelligent people. NEW: As I have had a strong response from people who would like to learn some of the over 80 techniques I have developed. I am looking at teaching and/or holding workshops and am looking for facilities or opportunities to do this. You may contact me through this site or through www.coldbentglass.com
If you get a chance I would love for you to listen to three new songs from my forthcoming album Tipping Point that I have posted to my page Rick - they are 'Hanging Tough', 'Life Goes On' and 'Dancing Bear'.

Hi Rick, I am impressed with your work very nice. I am currently working in Laminated Glass and plan to expand that into cast glass. I have always felt that glass is the single most beautiful medium to work with. Keep up the great work my friend.
