  • Bio

Bassist/Songwriter and recording artist Rick Sparfven was born in Providence Rhode Island and grew up in several small towns through out the New England area. This Rhode Island native was sold on the southern playing style of various country, rock, and blues musicians as a young man, so it's to no ones surprise that Ricks bands had covered the musical gambit over the years. The Rick Sparfven Project a jazz fusion band showcasing players from both the north as well as the south will leave no doubt of the flamboyant style and freedom of expression that the artist enthrall. This Beast from the East claims he owes much of his songwriting ability to the great creative musicians that surround him. "Being able to communicate only by musical notation at the point of it's origin and to be spontaneous is very special, this in itself breeds creativity," he says. His first solo music adventure began in West Palm Beach Florida and all though a learning experience it became a stepping stone for what was to become the beginning of many such creative works. Rick has enlisted the help of old friend and talented musician/songwriter Frank Swiech of the Bellamy Brothers along with Guitarist/songwriter Skiffy Flippo on the Purgatory Road album.
