My guitar influences are Django Reinhardt, Les Paul and Chet Atkins, as well as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page and Lowell George. My songwriting influences are Springsteen, Dylan and many of the old Blues legends. I'm also very big on the Memphis Soul sound.
Sounds Like
My music contains a variety of different sounds and styles but mostly has its roots in Southern Rock and R&B. You can't really pin a label on it. It's diverse.
Ricky Lewis may be best known as the long-time virtuoso guitarist for surf music pioneers, the Chantays (“Pipeline”) but those with more than a casual knowledge of Southern Rock know him for his role in Bull, a group that was among Indie’s first success stories, touring with acts such as Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot during the late '70s.
The sound featured on “Songs For The New Depression” (Ricky’s current CD) is closer to Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, which is the result of his eclectic taste in music and his strong skills as a songwriter.
The Ricky Lewis Band has been playing select live shows (including opening for the legendary John Hammond and Billy Vera & the Beaters at the Coach House) as well as using its website and FM radio airplay (KLOS 95.5) to win new fans.
Ricky Lewis relocated from the East Coast in 1979 and has remained in Southern California ever since. Ricky began playing guitar when he was only 6 years old and learned all types of music by studying the styles of all the greats. He has crafted his own unique playing style that embodies those early influences, as well as those of his favorite contemporary artists. Ricky Lewis is a true musician's musician and a great entertainer.
Ricky's solo debut album, "Songs For The New Depression" is available worldwide, in all formats. Songs for a new CD, as yet untitled, are currently being recorded and it is slated for release later this year. Some of these songs will be in rotation on this page's player very soon, so stay
tuned...
Between concerts with the full band in support of his original music, Ricky can be seen and heard, in and around SoCal, performing with his 3-piece band. You can go to Pacificali
to check for show dates, as well as message the band and leave comments. He also plays select solo gigs. Visit Ricky's personal myspace or Ricky's website for more info.
You can buy the CD (hard copy or mp3s) with lyrics & liner notes at CD Baby
You can also get digital downloads of one or all of the songs at Apple iTunes

The Ricky Lewis Band CD is indeed an entertaining piece of work. The lead voice is so unique and the power of the performance is great. This guy really knows his stuff. It seems like he is well aquainted with mutiple styles of popular music from many time periods. There's a style of music for everybody included in this CD. It's a clean and well recorded CD. The guitar playing in outstanding. These songs are very rememberable and fun to listen to.
Nice pop blues music!

As I listened to this, I kept thinking I had this guy figured out. I would hear Clapton influence. Then the next song would start and I'd hear Springsteen. I thought I heard some Little Feat influence there too. I even heard a touch of Charlie Daniels Band on this CD. Lewis is hard to pinpoint. The band is tight and the songs are very good.
