Influences
My early influences in music were family driven. I am the youngest of 5 boys in an East Texas family. The area where I grew up is rich with musicians and artists. I began playing when my brother Dennis bought my first guitar. Dennis and my brother Gene each had their own bands in their day. Dennis taught me the stone cold country songs that I still play today. Anything by Merle Haggard or George Jones was a staple in my shows. My brother Gene was all about the groove. He taught me songs by Johnny Rivers, the Temptations, anything 60's--Rolling Stones, Motown, and of course the Beatles. He was Mr. Smooth. I began developing my own rocking style due to my favorite bands that I began to listen to as an early teen. Bands like Aerosmith, Boston, KISS, James Gang, Steely Dan and my favorite, Jeff Beck.
Add a little gospel thrown in by my father Melvin, and you have the complete package.
Just want you to know I'm so grateful to have you in my life. You have gotten me through some very hard times this year and I'm glad I've been able to be there for you too. We are the greatest of friends and I've been blessed to have you in my life. I'm looking forward to many more years of friendship with you. Our lives were brought together for a reason, and it is a special friendship that I hold near and dear to my heart. I'm so grateful for you. You're what brightens my days.
