Rico M. Henry was born and raised in suburbia Atlanta to parents who had a great musical influence on his life. His father was the church organist while his mother sang with several local gospel groups. By age 8, Rico began playing the drums and at age 11 was introduced to his first love, the piano/B-3 organ.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Rico humbly started his musical career playing for his church. It was here where local artists discovered his musical talent. Soon Rico became one of the most sought after gospel musicians in Atlanta. He has since worked with the likes of many notable artists, such as Hezekiah Walker, Kurt Karr, Donnie McClurkin, Shirley Caesar, Daryl Coley, and Byron Cage, and Kim Burrell.
Although he made his humble beginnings in the gospel arena, Rico is fluent in several genres of music, including Contemporary Christian working with Casting Crowns, Michael W. Smith, Jeremy Camp, and Building 421, and R& B where has worked with Ann Nesby and Angie Stone; but his truest passion is Smooth Jazz. “Smooth Jazz brings serenity that will capture your mind and impel you to utopia” he explains. Rico has worked with distinguished jazz artists such as Kirk Whalum, Brian Culbertson, Norman Brown and Malcolm-Jamal Warner. His band, The Rico Henry Band or RHB, was recently the house band for Joyce Little’s Passion and Poetry. RHB is currently working to release its debut smooth jazz single entitled “Midnite”, which will be released under Psalms Music Group.
