Rider Safety Campaign Competition!
Australian Motorcycle News and Motorcycling Australia, in conjunction with Suzuki, Chris Vermeulen, Eurotred, Dainese, Oakley and McLeod Accessories have awarded the following winning entries....
1st prize: Simon Moseley, NSW
I keep my eyes on the road,
And always think ahead,
I’ve attended riding schools,
And practised what they’ve said,
I never ride beyond my ability,
I leave my racing on the track,
Because when I leave to go riding,
I want to be alive when I get back.
2nd prize: Richard Andrew, TAS

I rode to work yesterday.
Only a short trip from home;
Good road, 100kph, I ride it every day
Not a care in the world.
Like any other day; yesterday
ROO, 10 meters!!! Smack! Crunch!
Dead bike, dead helmet, dead jacket, and gloves
But I rode to work again today.
= 3rd prize: Peter Hurditch, NSW
I wear the right gear...no thongs here.
I keep my skills up to date...training courses I rate.
I service my bike...to ensure it stays upright.
Wheelies are a no no...safe speeds are the go go.
I'm vehicle aware...the road I share.
= 3rd prize: Matt Tan, VIC
You need to concentrate when riding. After a bad day at work, I take some time to clear the head. That way I'm thinking about whats happening on the road around me, and not about what happened at work.
= 3rd prize: Bruce Jones, QLD
I look for motorist’s blind spots and position myself where they can see me. I give cars plenty of time to react and make my intentions clear. Remember, “There is no such thing as right of way on a motorbike”. You always come out 2nd best in an accident.
= 3rd prize: Rob Anderson, QLD
Every time I ride is a test or rather a personal challenge. It is to get from A to B riding perfectly. No unnecessary braking or avoidance manoeuvres. My credo is “Fast is not always first”. I score myself out of 10 for every ride. Never made a 10 yet.
= 4th prize: Greg Lindsell, NSW
"Wear what your comfortable crashing in". This what I live by. I have had a couple of crashes on the road, due to road conditions, but because I follow this advice, I have been able to walk away from them. DO NOT WEAR T SHIRTS, SHORTS AND THONGS.
= 4th prize: Irwan Haji-Dolman, WA
“Early night’s sleep is imperative. Full safety equipment’s a must! It’s essential to ride within my own abilities and road conditions. Remember, obey the road rules, allow enough distance between myself and other road users, head checking and anticipate the person ahead is turning! Learn your roads by clocking k’s!!!”
= 4th prize: Robert Dusha, QLD
Three words: 'Use your head'.
Use your head before you ride off: wear protective clothing, check and maintain your motorcycle, avoid alcohol.
Use your head when you're riding: Ride within your limits, don't race, arrive alive.
= 4th prize: Greg Roberts, NSW
I never forget how dangerous riding is. Every time I ride I assume someone is trying to kill me - drivers, road conditions even wildlife. I check my bike over and don’t ride without my gear. I make certain I have control and good vision – common sense, essential every time.
= 4th prize: Chris De Vere, QLD
I wear full protective gear at all times, even if just going to the shop. I make myself as visible as possible, and keep my distance, alway scanning for possible dangers or hazards. Keep my cool and keep well within my limits, even if with a group.
Congratulations to all the winners. Ride Safe!
