What is Riding for Education?

Who hasn't dreamt of riding a horse across the mythical expanses of the silk routes? Who hasn't thought that "one day I'll do it?"

Riding for Education is a 10,000 journy by horseback and camel across Asia; from India, through Pakistan, along the ancient silk routes to far away China.

This jouney is about more than one mans dream, it's about a chance to make a difference to the lives of others today. Since I was an English teacher in remote Northern Nepal, I've wanted to do something for education in the region. The No. 1 goal of this effort is to raise £100,000 for the ActionAid International to educate disadvantaged children in remote communities across India, Pakistan and China. Asking questions is a fundamental part of the campaign. Why is education non-existent? And more importantly, how can we help? ActionAid works in each country to develop the poorest communities in the remotest locations. They support hundreds of schools across each country and with your donation they can support hundreds more. Nothing is more important to a child's future than an Education. It's simple fact that education lowers poverty. It improves their health, makes them aware of their rights gives every single one a better opportunity to survive in an increasingly global world.

I'd like to ask here for anyone reading this to please consider donating to a young persons life. Over half of all girls in Pakistan cannot read and write! What is their future? All donations go directly to ActionAid to benefit a child's future i n India, Pakistan and China. All contributions help and just to show how it matters, I've included a cost by cost comparison of how far a donation can go.

  • 30p could buy an exercise book for one child
  • £4.50 could buy one learning kit including books, pens and a small bag
  • £6 could buy a sports kit for one child
  • £30 could buy a blackboard for a classroom
  • £108 could buy enough school uniforms for 40 children

Challenge the Future

Who I'd like to meet:
Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Sir Chris Bonnington, Sir Edmund Hillary, William Dalrymple and many inspiring characters that cross my path each day.

Riding for Education Website now updated. Why? To get the ball rolling towards 100,000 for education. Why? Because I love sharing this journey with the world and because lives only happen once. What I hope? That you will help this ride by donating towards it's charity and it's reason: education. Like this ride, we only have one chance. Life is far too short to be little.
