After turning a new leaf in 1989 from being an avid sport-hunter/angler into a leading anti-hunting/anti-rodeo activist, Steve Hindi was inducted into the Animal Rights Hall of Fame during the AR2006 Conference, here pictured with organizer Dr. Alex Hershaft.

Steve is a direct-action warrior whose weapons are his sophisticated video cameras for truth recording, his parasail for hunting interference, his Tiger Truck for street-level outreach, and his iron will in saving animals from the human cruelty that he knew so well.

Steve has been jailed more than once for obeying his own compassionate conscience than unethically enforced unjust laws. His courage is exemplary. He is one of the reasons why Anthony Marr, himself a hated anti-hunter, never hates hunters in return, while he fights to win over them.

Dr. Steven Best will be Anthony Marr's guest on Animal Voices Friday, August 7, 3-4pm ET/12-1pm PT

Dr. Best (www.DrSteveBest.org) used to be the chair of the philosophy dept of UT El Paso, but was demoted for his animal rights and environmental activism. He is on the watch-list of the FBI and is currently banned from the UK for his outspoken support for direct action. Yet, undaunted, he writes, speaks and acts courageously on.

His intellectual range encompasses philosophy, social/political theory, cultural studies, science/technology studies, animal rights, environmentalism and biotechnology. He has written 10 revolutionary books - e.g. Terrorists or Freedom Fighters? Reflections on the Liberation of Animals (2004), Igniting a Revolution: Voices in Defense of the Earth (2006),  Animal Liberation and Moral Progress: The Struggle for Human Evolution (2008), and over 100 articles and reviews . He co-founded the Institute for Critical Animal Studies (http://www.criticalanimalstudies.org). He is well-covered in global media. Currently he is completing a new book on academic repression in post-9/11 US.
