Truly a force to behold, Riot Act is one of the Mid Atlantic areas premier bands. Five veteran musicians with a shared love of 80’s rock joined together to share their passion and make some amazing music. Drawing on years of combined experience the members have taken the best of the Hair Rock era and are now serving it up to modern audiences. Games such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero have engendered a new interest in just this type of music so Riot Act is right on time to rock out with such great tunes.
Taking center stage for Riot Act is veteran singer "Rockstar" Lee. Lee has been the lead vocalist for many regional bands including Kindred Soul, Lethal Steel, and most recently Push. He played with current bass player, Gene, in the mid 90's in Typhoid Mary. Perhaps most notably he fronted the band White Noise which was a regular opener for countless national acts all over the East Coast. With Lee taking point, White Noise went on to win second place in the Atlantic Regional Starsearch competition and made 3 Basement Tapes for MTV. His wide vocal range and natural charisma make him perfect for the Riot Act family.
Lead guitarist Aubrey was in Korupt, Rumble Street, and he toured nationally with Dogs of War. A shredder from age eight he was playing in bars by age 15 and was voted Best Guitarist in Baltimore by Maryland Musician Magazine in 1994. His bands have opened for national acts and gotten great reviews. His amazing ability to capture the technicality and also the soul of the music is well worth the listen.
Fellow guitarist and keyboard player, Valerie has been a musician almost her whole life. She played saxophone all throughout highschool and college and was first chair in the Salisbury University Jazz Band for one year. She began learning guitar and piano at age 12 and has been employed as a teacher of both instruments for over 20 years. A veteran of bands such as Velvet and Steel and Intuition, and as former lead guitarist for EarthChilde she lends versatility to the band.
Bass player, Gene met Valerie back in the early 90’s when they both played in the pop/rock band Nirvanah. His greatest success came later with the original band Taste of which he was a founding member. Taste toured nationally and was sent to the International Canadian Music Conference to represent the United States in 1997 where they got a deal with BMG. He has had many television and radio appearances and has recorded in Nashville. He has amazing energy on stage and a thumpin’ bottom end.
Rounding out the rhythm section and the lineup is Jimmy. A local legend, Jimmy was in several Mid Atlantic bands including the infamous Krankenstein, and later the Vitamen in the 80s. A player since age 13, "Pop-pop" is now teaching his son, and so passing his mad skills on to the next generation. Drawing on a wide range of influences and playing with adroit mastery Jimmy is the starting energy and the driving force behind the Riot Act sound.
With all members singing and with such a wide range of experience and ability Riot Act has limitless potential. They rock out tunes other bands fear to try. Throw up your horns, poof up your hair, find your ripped up jeans and check us out!
